There is something to be said for the old way of running the football where the running back is a few yards behind the quarterback. From this position he can receive the toss from the right side or the left side. Defense has to respect both possibilities. Then, when the toss takes place this creates movement....more movement by the linemen and linebackers than the way things are done now with the quarterback handing to a running back standing flatfooted and having no momentum going anywhere. With the increased movement created by the "toss" a running back gets momentum and can read his blocks better thus having a better chance of gaining more yardage. I believe Kaleb Jackson would benefit from the old "toss". As well, I think all running backs would do better with the "toss" rather than the qb read and react which has rb's standing flatfooted and having no momentum. This is my opinion and look forward to hearing what others have to say.

We lack punch in our running game.

So you're saying LSU's run game sucks. I agree. BK with another soft AF team for one reason or another.

We have run that same fricking shotgun off tackle hand off a 100 times for 1 yard last season and this season. I am so tired of it.

I would be absolutely fired up to see the iformation

The current scheme will NOT work with our OL play. Let’s see if our very well paid coaches can fix it.

This why I keep questioning why we don’t run pistol more often.

Why are teams like Ole Miss, Oregon, Ohio State, etc so good at rushing from the same/similar shotgun formations? I agree with what you’re saying but lots of teams have shown they can have very competent running games in tough conferences.

I miss the fullback position. And the hybrid-ish tail/fulls like Jacob Hester and Joe Addai.

I agree 100%. The game is cyclical. Over the last 10 - 15 years or so, defenses have reacted and adjusted to the read option / pass happy offenses. It’s time for the offenses to evolve again… maybe to the past.

I mean youth league QB’s don’t even know how to take a snap under center.

If only Les could’ve held on a little longer he might be considered an innovator.

I think Kaleb is a good back but cannot run behind this line. He’s a one cut and go this line cannot open holes.

I’m with you, love a good toss.

It’s a good opinion and certainly anything should be considered because running directly behind Chester is not gonna work without us losing at some point.

I hate to even mention Bama but the bottom line is Nick set the standard there and he always had a lead dog bad arse Center.
Never was that position a question. Chester wouldn’t even have a place on his team quite frankly.
It was hardly even talked about really when Saban was there because of how well the position was run.

The Center is the QB of the line. You can’t function effectively without a competent Center.
We had two of the best Tackles in Football last year but sucked running the ball. Why? Terrible Center.

We need Moore and we need him back bad.

Common sense is not that common. Last time we played all three of those teams we beat em. Oh BTW we are undefeated in case you missed it. OUR OL IS YOUNG AND DEVELOPING. Texas and Alabama has as you say a superior OL and both have losses. OUR inferior OL kept the superior mighty Clemson DL away from Nuss to win the game. Here's your book.

Sure, you’re obviously right. But the QB is under center and that damages the passing game. And in this day and age the passing game is where the most production comes from.
