Unfortunately I don’t see any progression this year with Nuss

I really thought he would have that jump his 2nd year like Burrow and Daniels , but Nuss is the same .
1)Refuses to run and ends up costing his team possessions
2)Terrible pocket presence
3) Still throws off his back foot
I’m shocked that this staff couldn’t help him break these habits. The saving grace is that our defense is night and day from last season, but you can’t put all of the weight on their backs.
I don’t think they fix 2 and 3 , but they can damn sure fix #1. He had multiple chances to run last night . He has to change that or I will see you guys at the Cheeze It Bowl

So, to be clear, in 2022 after the FSU and Southern game you saw the progressions with Jaden Daniels correct?

We won’t win shite with Nuss or Kelly.
These two are about to waste an elite defense.

I kept telling people here it was dumb to expect that jump.
Burrow and Daniels both made the leap after being in the program for a full year. People forget Burrow didn’t arrive until the fall his first season. Nuss has been at LSU for 5 years, he is who he is.

I am an old timer and not in great shape and I could’ve run for 10+ yards on several of those plays. beyond frustrating.

He took one “sack” where he did some spin thing, wasn’t touched, and fell down

Good point, and I agree. He'll have moments this year where he looks amazing, but the basic tenet is that he plays scared. He folds up in the pocket the minute he feels pressure, and refuses to take the easy yards that would make him really difficult to defend. When is the last time you saw him step in to a throw, and take a hit as he releases it? It doesn't happen because he's already bailing out of the play. It's really frustrating to watch, because he has a lot of talent, and he's not actually slow or immobile.

That’s a good point; the season is young. However, Daniels went into 2022 with a big question mark; would he be able to loosen up and take some more risks. Remember, he would not trust his receivers and throw it up when they were covered but the DB wasn’t looking. This led to great efficiency and low turnovers by Daniels but not enough production in the passing game.
This problem was coached out of Jayden Daniels. Our problems in 2022 were an atrocious defense. Nuss’ main problem - an unwillingness to run - is seemingly still there. Maybe he will tuck and run in big moments as the year goes on, but it’s glaring that he still has this issue.

that one was weird.
seemed like he had quit at that point.

Him running is not important.
Him not being able to hit wide open WR's downfield is.
Him seeing ghosts in the pocket, is.

I’ve never seen a football player SO scared to run

_______
This play was very bad. He had about 5 seconds of time to do something other than wait for the defender to finally get to him. This play exemplified his decision making on the night.
I am a glass half full guy, and think he will look more like week1 when he faces Florida next week.

You can't have a QB who's afraid to tuck it and run for easy first downs.

Yes it is. You don’t need a lot of running production from him, but at critical moments, he has to take it if it is there.
He did miss some wide open guys, but that hasn’t been a big problem in the past, so I’m not too worried about it.

You must have not watched last weeks game then. He did regress last night. I think we see how he plays next week against FL. Hopefully it’s the worst game we play all season.

I heard almost the same thing said about Daniels being in college for 5 years, and he is who he is after the 2023 FSU game.
Let the season play out.

Him running is not important.
However
quote:I think the same reason he won’t take an automatic easy first down with his legs on a big 3rd down is the same reason he seees “ghosts” and throws off his back foot at times:
Him seeing ghosts in the pocket, is.
He thinks about getting hit while the play is happening

So he’s not as good as two of the best young QBs in the NFL? And who would you trade him for ? He’s not gonna be Joe or JD5 but he’s still a really good college QB

Did I say that you braindead frick? I said I expected him to make the jump that they did in year 2. I never said anything about Nuss being as good as them. It’s about getting better from year 1 to year 2. They did it and fixed problems they had in year 1. Nuss does not look like he has fixed anything.
