The NCAA FB Oversight Committee voted today to support a single transfer portal in January, sources tell @YahooSports, ushering in a significant change. The Administrative Committee still needs to formally adopt the change later. The 10-day window is expected to open Jan. 2.

I like a 10 day window but the date is idiotic. Doing it while football is still being played makes it really brutal on playoff teams.

Yeah the NCAA just can’t do anything right. Even with a good idea they butcher it

The portal should not end before the last game is played.

The timing couldnt be more idiotic, also no clue why they get rid of the post spring window. Some guys will not like where there are after spring practice and now just have to wait it out another 7-8 months

Don’t understand the decision to do it January instead of May.

lol, not saying your wrong or that in theory what should be done. But what a charade if that’s the NCAA’s main reasoning for the date.

For now. Till the first law suit is filed, claiming that players' rights are being restricted. Just watch what jurisdiction it mite be filed in.

I mean it’s definitely the reason. You can’t have guys enrolling in school in the middle of February.

Personally, I would have it at the end of the spring semester, but coaches would never agree to that.

I agree with you, that’s when I would have it. But I would bet coaches want the players in the programs ASAP and also do not want to cut out the little vacation time they have throughout the year.

They do this to make the teams equal..
It's just like baseball when this happens during omaha

The powerhouse teams are busy trying to win the championships

Immediate eligibility will be the next step. Can you imagine how much money star athletes on non-playoff teams will be offered?

If it opens Jan. 2nd, that means only 4 teams will still be playing. I suspect the other 100+ teams/coaches/players want to start making moves ASAP so they can start building their rosters AND, most importantly, get new transfers enrolled in school for the spring semester so those guys can participate in winter workouts/spring practice. If you push the date until the end of January it may be too late for the transfers to participate in the spring.

It will be a distraction for the 4 teams still playing, but that is a small number relative to the teams that won't be playing at that time.

With most teams having a GM I don't feel like it will be as big of an issue as people think

Yeah but if you need a stud WR or RB (or QB even?) during your playoff run, it's great...

Maybe a couple DL?

This is a very clear penalty on making the final 4 then.

You will be prepping & trying to recruit/retain a roster just prior to semis & natty?

This is fricking retarded.

See I would have preferred the 1-10 day window to be either when everyone is off i.e Christmas or after the College Football season like Jan 15th or something like that.
