What was the reason given for the pick play that was waved off on the 4th and 2?

I had the volume down at that time and didn't catch the refs explanation. Did they say the Clemson player was blocking because the ball was in the air? It hasn't been caught yet so I would assume that should still count as an illegal pick.

Dabo’s snarky face after laughing with the ref pissed me off to no end.

Behind the line of scrimmage.

Or Dabo complained.

Dumb question. It wasnt so much a pick as it was a block as he’s chasing the guy and the ball was in the air. I don’t care if it’s behind the line that’s a bush league block. Not a common pick play.

That and him griping about the PI called on the pass to Green.

Not self aware at all.

It should be made illegal, it’s a cheap shot, almost targeting a defenseless player…no different than the blindside blocks that are illegal now.

Correct, last I checked blindside blocks are now illegal. It’s exactly what that was.

It definitely still should have been a flag despite it being caught behind the line of scrimmage. Textbook blindside block blocking back towards own endzone.

It was definitely a blind side block.

Yeah, I didn't catch that aspect last night. I wonder if the rule has some kind of conditions that make it not apply during a forward pass or something? Looked like a straight up blind side to me.

blind side blocks are not illegal if they occur in the free blocking zone or are done with open hands. picks, dpi or opi are not valid on passes that do not clear neutral zone.

Don't underestimate Dabo. I wouldn't be surprised if all that griping was gamesmanship on his part.

Particularly on the PI. It was an obvious penalty, but he's a good enough coach to realize we were taking control of the game. So throw a tantrum for a play or two, whip your players and fans into a frenzy, and maybe they respond. And perhaps the refs even let your DBs get away with more contact.
