From WAFB news story yesterday: Judge Louise Hines found two public defenders and a prosecutor in contempt during a Baton Rouge double murder trial, citing repeated disruptions and improper arguments.

Surprised this has not been discussed here yet.
Wondering if OT attorneys are reluctant to weigh in due to past TD NO Feds mishap.

It seems that the prosecutor got it just b/c both defense counsel got held in contempt. The violations are certainly not equitable.

You are exactly who I was hoping would find a way to comment

Wonder if it would be safe territory to at least discuss the impact the contempt may have on the original trial's outcome since it apparently involved a murder conviction?

Nah, we just don’t generally talk about our friends to strangers

I don’t know Ms. Woods well, but Steve and Morgan are very good trial attorneys and Hines is a very good judge. shite happens.

So for non-attorneys, is this a bad look or something that follows you around or is this just sort of one of those things everyone kind of deals with at one point or another?

The worst part will likely be this news article/reporting.

I've never been held in contempt, but I know 2 lawyers who have and one told me the publicity he got from it jump-started his career. The other signed multiple clients in jail

Pretty much what SFP said. As long as it doesn’t elevate to an ethics complaint with the ODC, it will blow over. Hell, an attorney in Baton Rouge got held in contempt and shipped back to EBRPP with his client and no one seemed to remember a month later

If I were a client I don’t know that I would hate it haha. To me, unless it was for something approaching gross incompetence i would feel better that I’m getting a vigorous defense

I grew up with him and knew his family/cousins well. I was shocked by that.

well I think I've identified the problem.
