Planting wildflowers in the medians of roadways

A death trap for pollinators? The flowers attract pollinators who try and cross busy roadways to get to the flowers only to get smashed by automobiles.

If you plant them then they can't really be wildflowers right?

A commie post with a commie picture of people driving on the left side of the road in the UK.
ETA: Thanks for editing to a picture from somewhere God pays attention.

Roads are death traps for many things: butterflies, cyclists, baws, dodge trucks, etc.

Motorcyclists and deer tend to agree with the above. Hit a deer at highway speed on a motorcycle and it's almost a guarantee someone or something is going to die.

Spring time in Texas with all of the bluebonnets is one of my favorite things in life.

I just looked at my spreadsheet where I list the top 1,000 things I worry about and your problem AIN'T on it...

More likely, it's a death trap for the citizens' dollars that are going to be wasted with that planting.
Ask the good now-poorer people of North Carolina who a decade or so ago went into roadside beautification of their interstates. The first year, acres of blooms.
The wildflowers should have reseeded and been self perpetuating. They weren't. There are a few coreopsis in a scattered amonst the weeds near an abandoned weighing station on I-40 west of Asheville. That's it for now.
The spaces have been better filled (IMO) with big shrubs that act as crash supressors. (But not R. multiflora which was supposed to fill that niche but which can die from Rose rosette disease which spreads to cultivated roses.)

IDK about that deathtrap stuff, but there's kind of a hippy-run city near me that's decided to take the "wildflower garden" approach to landscaping some oversize sidewalks they recently built, and it's pretty scraggly-looking.
More importantly, they carved out space for those new sidewalks by getting rid of left turn lanes, and this is on a pretty major thoroughfare. I get the "pedestrian friendly" goal, but these hippies have taken it so far as to be more "car hostile" instead. If they think a street is too busy, they just close down a lane and put bollards or "planters" there. Total frickin' insanity.
