What age did your kids start waking themselves up for school?

My son who is in first grade asked for an old school analog alarm clock. I still have nightmares of the sound of these.
We set the alarm for each morning and he is now in the routine of getting up and turning it off himself and starting his day.
Just got me curious as to what age most of you started getting up on your own for school ? Think I was around 8 with an alarm clock

My daughter still depends on me to wake her up and get going. She’s in elementary school but certainly old enough to do it herself. Who knew daughters could weaken a man’s heart so much?

I need to take lessons from you. My 11 yo son needs to be dragged out of bed to get up. I may start dumping cold water on him.

Depends on the child. Some were early on and some want me to do it, not that they can’t themselves but they like daddy waking them up because I usually make it fun.
One of my daughters (no pics you pervs) wanted to snuggle for 5 or 10 minutes to start her day. I cherished that time.

They're supposed to wake themselves?

She’s been getting up most mornings around the time I start stirring (5ish) on her own since she started Kindergarten. Sometimes she sits in the living room with me and other times I can convince her to get back in bed for a little bit.
Only problem is she does this shite on Saturdays too
But at least she’s learned how to fix her own breakfast.

Was I supposed to wake myself?
I was a shite head in HS, I didn't wake myself until senior year. Missed a lot of school that year, fricked around and almost didn't graduate.
I didn't want to go to school, didn't care if I made it or not. My priorities have changed quite a bit since then.

I would think most kids should be able to set an alarm and wake up on their own by 8-9 years old. Mine are teenagers and we just remind them to set their alarm when they go to bed.
I cringe when I hear parents talk about having to drag their kid out of bed, make them do homework/chores etc. They think its funny that their kid is lazy but in reality it is a reflection of their shitty parenting.

She won’t do it herself because YOU ENABLE her to depend on you to get her up to “protect” her from suffering the consequences of not doing it herself.

Omg I hate those. But I may end up buying one bc my iPhone alarm isn’t reliable since upgrading to the 15. I always woke my kids up. I enjoyed saying “good morning””, time to get up!”

It depends on the maturity of the child. All four of mine started waking themselves up and getting dressed sometime during elementary school.
Otoh, my sil was still waking up her two children and nagging them to get dressed in college (she worked there, and they rode in with her).

Mine is 7, about to be 8, and we just got him an alarm clock last week. He has always been pretty good about waking up naturally on time as long as he goes to sleep at a normal time, so it’s mainly to prevent the situations where it’s 7:00 and he’s still dead asleep.

Granddaughter who has lived with me most of her life wakes herself up, always has.
I might have had to get her up a few times in Kindergarten, but she set her own alarm and got up every morning, and ready for school.

Didn't realize this was a thing. We knew Dad had a 3 time tolerance of hearing my mom yelling at us, turning on room lights, etc before we heard his first warning.
Though it's a good sign from your son. Old school alarm clocks must be a new retro thing for kids. I just learned a few of my younger nephews/nieces/cousins kids have them and asked for them.
Id recommend getting one with an radio. And program the good local stations. That's how I got into listening to political talk as a kid. I couldn't sleep to music, so found AM radio and listen to it as I slept.

What time are all of these kids going to bed?

I never had an alarm clock until college.
^^^let me preface this. I didn’t need one. I would just naturally stir with the rest of the house. Waking up was never a problem.
High school was so tits though. First bell wasn’t until 8:40. I’d sleep in almost everyday. Wait for the folks to leave. Smoke a dooberino and then just barely make it in time.
