NYT Warns Against Exercising After Hegseth, RFK Jr Promote Fitness Challenge

Don't ya' just love Communism Propaganda?
The New York Times warned readers against exercising too hard after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr challenged Americans to try to do 100 push-ups and 50 pull-ups in 10 minutes. This breaks down to around 10 push-ups and 5 pull-ups a minute
The article cites "expert" opinions on the matter, saying, "Fitness experts caution against jumping into a difficult routine suggested by Robert F Kennedy Jr and Pete Hegseth."
The pair dubbed it the "Pete and Bobby Challenge," and videos of the routine were widely shared on social media. The article from the corporate news outlet was mocked online, with many pointing out that the Times was suggesting that pushing yourself during exercise is not a good thing—though the outlet advocated for just that 2014.

This is all about not complying with anything coming out of the Trump administration. Who would be against healthy exercise? If you can't do the full challenge, that's fine. Most people can't. That doesn't mean you can't give it a try. There's no harm.

They are basically the Babylon Bee at this point.
I honestly thought that’s what this had to be before I clicked.

I think the point of the article is to tell people that if you haven't exercised in a year, you may not want to try to jump into an extreme routine.
Though you'd think any adult with a bit of sense would know that. And if someone wants to try to do 100 pushups in 10 minutes, whether they can or not, what's the harm in them trying?
It's not like it's encouraging someone who hasn't exercised to go outside in 100 degree summer and immediately try to run 20 miles. Once the arms give out...then they're done. If you only made it to 30 pushups, and that's more than what you've been doing, then good job! Keep it up.

Anyone that knows anything about anything knows that someone that isn't in shape won't even bother trying that anyway. And if people have any experience with exercise but are out of shape they know that's something that they'd have to work up to. Those aren't bad fitness goals though.

"Trump and Hegseth are trying to hurt people!"

Could they have written an article title "What is the best way for someone to work up to RFK and Pete Hegseth's suggested routine"?
Of course they could have encouraged millions of their out of shape readers to become more healthy with this much more even handed approach. But at what cost to the message?

Jumping in
98% that would try this from scratch would get maybe one pushup in and no pull ups for the first week or more. There is no "jumping in" when it'll take months to get to 25 push ups and maybe 2 pull ups. NYT is pathetic.
Its not as if the inexperienced can just knock out a bunch of push ups and cause rhabdomyolysis.

Yep not it would take repeated attempts in a short period of time. My son is starting his first year at a service academy and even some of those kids that are supposed to be mostly physical fit suffered from rhabdomyolysis mostly girls from what I hear. It takes time to build up to that level even proclaimed gym rats would fail this challenge it’s a different type of strength required for military style workouts.
