A Tickfaw man has been arrested after authorities say he shot a pregnant teenager in the head during a road rage incident in Tangipahoa Parish.

Barry West, 54, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on four counts of attempted second-degree murder, one count of illegal use of a weapon and obstruction of justice, the sheriff’s office said Monday.

Deputies said the shooting happened around 9 a.m. Sunday on North Hoover Road near Ponchatoula. Investigators believe West and another vehicle — a Ford Expedition carrying the 17-year-old victim and two others — were tailgating and brake-checking each other before West fired a shot into the SUV.

The teen, who was seven months pregnant, was struck in the head while sitting in the front passenger seat. The driver rushed her to a hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section.

The baby is stable in a neonatal intensive care unit, authorities said.

The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

I try not to let road ragers get to me for the simple reason that you never know who’s a loose canon. Someone starts acting stupid on the road next to me I just let them do and distance my self from them.

Sad situation for the driver of the teen to be in.

Too many short-tempered psychos roaming the streets. A lesson to us all. Avoid getting into a brake-check pissing match. It’s not worth it.

Not smart to antagonize people in this day and age.

You just don't know who belongs in a mental asylum because mental illness is ignored now.

A few years back I began making it a point to work on my own anger issues when driving. The risk just isnt worth it. People are nuts.

Not exactly sure why they haven’t officially announced it. But on local Facebook pages they are saying she passed and there are some go fund me accounts set up. Totally senseless act. You never know when you wake in the morning if you are going to encounter some psycho that day.

Same, but it's hard not getting angry when some idiot blares his horn at me for something that was his fault.

Same. I used to brake check people all the time. It was silly and certainly not worth it. Thankfully I never was shot at by some crazy person

Totally senseless. The baby should be fine, except she will never know her mother because this guy felt disrespected. .
