Troopers are having to wear protective vests....in the heat of June, July and August +....because they have no idea what kind of driver will be behind the wheels anymore.

This is actually one of the main reasons you see so few traffic stops these days. Those guys don’t wanna take that risk.

The driver of the dead girl's car shares some blame here, imo...

No, this is nonsense. I don’t know who started the road rage. That doesn’t matter. This guy escalated by pulling out a gun and shooting. This guy went from a brake checking incident to straight up killing.

The completely unnecessary lack of just general respect people give for law enforcement reaches across all races.

Whoever was driving the girl needs his arse kicked.

You don't put a pregnant woman - or any woman - in harms way because you got your feelings hurt.

You're right that the escalation and gunplay are solely on the shooter. I disagree though that the other driver has no culpability. Even without shots fired the mystery driver put the 17yr old in unnecessary danger by engaging in mutual road rage and irresponsible driving.

Imagine shooting somebody because you felt wronged by them in some way on the road. Humans behave like such animals when they get behind the wheel.

Apparently the shooter is known for road raging and brandishing his gun around town when people are going too slow for him. A while ago, a buddy of mine was driving the speed limit on one of the smaller two lane roads in Ponchatoula and this guy was raging behind him. My buddy pulled to the side to let him pass, and the guy pulled up next to him and waved his gun around. POS.

Hopefully there's a police report about one of these so this clown's attorney can't claim it was an isolated incident put into motion by the victim's actions.

A troopers experience in the I-10/I-12 corridor is much different than one in the I-49/I-20 corridor.

So much more trash coming up and down I-10 in any given day. Much more of a trafficking trail and just a magnet for criminals in general.

North you are gonna get a good ole boy speeding in his F250 or a PawPaw swerving too much.

Yep, I had a dude from Georgia follow me for about an hour because I flipped him the bird because he almost ran me off the road. Dude was just wanting to shoot someone. This was on I-65 (probably a beach goer). I pulled off and on the interstate multiple times but he would just keep following. My handgun was in the rear so I never stopped (yes I know, does no good there). Now I just keep my distance and let the frickers that want to go 100 mph just pass with no resistance. I know they’ll be dead soon anyway.

If he hasn’t already you’re friend may want to report that he recognizes this guy and vehicle, whatever the case may be, from his incident. I have no idea if that’ll help the case against this a-hole, but it’s worth reporting on the chance it might.

Re: the driver of the deceased - reminds me of something I learned at CHP course. If you’re the aggressor towards me I should remain calm and attempt to de-escalate. If the aggressor makes a move to put me in imminent danger I can then lawfully draw my pistol and defend myself.

However, if I respond aggressively to his aggression (prior to imminent danger) and subsequently have to shoot him when he does move towards me, I’m going to jail. Feel free to correct me if my understanding is off.

If not legally responsible for his or her actions at the very least I hope this person learns the lesson it sounds like many of us have - it’s not worth it. I’m sure they’re suffering in any case. Lot of folks hurt over things like this.

Had it happened in Florida and there was evidence they had indeed brake checked one another chances are good he'd be a hero for standing his ground. Video a few years ago of a dude blasting the shite out of his own dashboard after a brake checking video where he reached for his pistol before hitting his brakes....he walked. Nary a charge.

Mom and Fetus should have been armed and opened fire back...more guns in the hands of citizens is the only acceptable answer and a fetus is a citizen....

Too many short-tempered psychos roaming the streets. A lesson to us all. Avoid getting into a brake-check pissing match. It’s not worth it.

The fact that even a subcompact automobile at 60 MPH is a 2500 pound lethal weapon when used incorrectly ain't enough to avoid acting a fool on the highway? Best case scenario is eerybody involved is pissed off for some period of time...almost no limit to the bad shite that could happen...

I feel bad for people who drive like fricking maniacs...imagine being so poor and stressed out that you have to drive 20 MPH over the speed limit to get to work....

Were that to happen the mom would end up with a large hole in her abdomen and both would likely die

a similar incident happened to me and is the reason i dont mess with road rage anymore. was doing 80 on i-49 and some dbag in a lifted f-150 pulled up behind me doing 100+ easily. for as fast as i was going and as fast as he caught up to me i knew he was putting the pedal to the floor. we were the only two on the interstate for miles but he crept right up on my tail and was within inches of my tailgate when he decided to go around me. as he passed me he early side swiped me and my blood instantly boiled. i mashed pedal to give him a piece of my mind, boy was that stupid. that idiot harassed me for miles. almost ran me off the interstate twice. called the cops and they got him a couple more miles down the road. worst part was he was all over the road and his eyes were half open so i'm sure he was under the influence.
