ETA: it's official

quote:

@SEC to implement nine-game conference football schedule beginning in 2026, reinforcing the SEC’s position as the nation’s leader in competitive excellence and fan excitement.

quote:

According to previous modeling of 9-game conference schedules - a debate the league has held now for four years - each SEC school would play 3 permanent opponents and 6 rotating each season.

quote:

If the SEC decides to move to a 9-game schedule, ACC leaders have said that they would likely follow suit - a move that puts all four power conferences at 9-game league schedules.

This may expedited discussions around future CFP formats.

I'd prefer to stay at 8 until FSU finally grows a pair and joins.

They're going to expand the playoff field then.

I'm all for it but OOC schedules are going to suffer. I'd like for SEC schools to start scheduling close to home for their OOC schedule.

TAMU - SHSU
BAMA - UAB
TEX - Texas State

Conference championship games are toast. Wouldn’t be surprised if the regular season shortened a game or two as well

Playoff is going to go to 16 and the other conferences are going to have to follow suit. This is guaranteeing half the league another loss

This is stupid, but if all the schools are desperate do more money then I guess they'll take extra L's.

CFB is about to just be a shittier version of the NFL.

They've completely gutted what used to be a totally separate spectacle.

I support this but another blow to the G5. That’s one game every year most of them won’t be able to get now because of not having a dance partner with a fat wallet.

Maybe more playoff money offsets this?

And when ESPN can no longer meet the payroll to support the schools that matter (much less all the rest who field football teams ), then what happens?

Notre Dame shouldn't count.

They need to be forced into a conference.

If we are going to kick teams out, we have to start with Mizzou.
