The day my daughters were born, I started three accounts:
College Fund
Wedding Fund
First Car Fund
I've thrown money in those accounts monthly and thanks to the growth of QQQ, we're looking at a very nice ride as my youngest approaches 16.
We've been looking at the Lexus NX, Mercedes GLC, BMW X3, Audi Q3, and the Acura RDX. A surprising new competitor has entered the chat.
The Porsche Macan
The wife is a little apprehensive about putting the daughter in a Porsche. The price range we are at is around $35k. There are several in the $38k range, including a certified one that is the color combo the girl wants. Her first choice is actually the Lexus, but too many of them have the red seats, that she doesn't like at all.
Would you put a 16 year old in a Porsche?

to me this just teaches your children horrible optics at a young age. Put her in a new honda crv and call it a day.

Avoid any MACAN pre 2019. Lots of issues and I’d only buy cpo regardless of year.

Looking at a '22 CPO.
I feel like if we could find the Lexus in the right color combo, we'd be set. I've got the Baton Rouge dealer looking.

I am guessing this is not a joke? Maybe/hopefully it is.
I Have two daughters. One 19 and one 16.
The oldest so far in 3 years has hit two deer and a cement bollard in a gas station parking lot.
If this isn’t a joke do yourself a favor and get them something safe with Apple car play in it (which is essentially all teenage girls give two shits about) and put the tens of thousands of dollars here, saving into a Roth IRA for them both

For me, this all comes down to the fact they are going to wreck the frick out of their first car almost guaranteed.
No way I'm making that loss bigger than it needs to be by getting something expensive.

Sounds like you forgot the insurance fund at that age and with luxury cars.

I assumed this was “look at me thread” and based on the fact that he hasn’t replied yet that seems like the best thought.

NFW am i putting my youngest in anything that costs that much nor does she deserve it. I do enough for her travel ball wise and help future college wise and other shite. She will get what i let her use. maybe my old truck. maybe not. She will learn value and hard work(which she does for sports and school)and earn it. I am not gifting any expensive vehicle to a damn teen.

We went with a new Honda HRV with all the bells and whistles for my daughter. She will eventually own and have to maintain it. Just seemed like a really good high school/college car with good safety features. I drive an old Toyota and have no desire to push her into a luxury brand.

I wouldn’t do it. I’d go for a used high mileage 4 runner since they will likely crash it. Probably wouldn’t go smaller than that so when they do crash it they should be able to survive.

Basic maintenance goes crazy on those. You're looking at probably 3-4k for an intermediate maintenance.
Also, a lesson many learn by experience: a 70k car that's depreciated to 35k still has 70k car repairs/replacements. You may buy that Porsche for 35k and then spend 10-15k in maintenance/repairs/replacements over the next 5 years.

Turn the excess of the first car fund when you get her a CRV into a house down payment fund. It'll mean 1000x more. And it'll almost be impossible for her to run into shite with the house.
