You took him in the 2nd and guaranteed him $10M. Shough absolutely needs to start and play as much as possible this year so you know with certainty if you'll need to take a QB in round 1.

He's one of the only people who have said it will be Shough. Most who cover the Saints more intently think the opposite.

A second round pick is not a "must play" who would prevent the Saints from drafting a top QB prospect next year if they are in a position to do so. I think the Saints will start Rattler in game 1, largely based upon experience, due to the fact neither QB has really separated themselves. However, it's not like Rattler would have a long rope. If he isn't good, I think Moore gives Shough a shot pretty quickly.

That's not the worst commentary I've heard on the situation

Except I didn't really follow what he was saying as far as the play selection difference between the two.

I mean he could have elaborated on that is all I'm saying

Sure it’s not big money in the grand scheme of NFL contracts but it’s certainly a reason to play him early and often.

It’s not “the reason” to start him but it shows a commitment to the franchise for a QB they hand picked to be their guy.

the nugget means absolutely nothing. backup qb's are getting paid anywhere from 4-6 million + a year.

if anything, i can make the argument that the organization would want to hide him from showcasing a bust potential being that his 4th year is fully guaranteed.

At some point this year, yes.

But Rattler will start the first 4 games as the starter

There's a meme going around that the Saints called different plays for Shough than Rattler and that means they want Shough to have the job

Several people that cover the Saints went over every single play and said its nonsense

Whoever it ends up being, i'm happy its not Shedeur. Shedeur is a legit retard who thinks he's privileged like frick and thinks he's god's gift to football.

It would be nonsense that they called the game in a way because they want someone to win the starting job. If that was the case, they would just give them the job and tell the other to be the backup or F off. But calling different plays for different QBs with different skill sets and potential different understandings of the playbook, would be normal. It would actually be a disservice to try to force either QB to make them fit their style of play.

The people that say that probably don't realize that if one QB throws to the TE over the middle, and the other QB throws to the RB in the flat; that it could still be the same exact play, but the defense and QB's reads required the different outcomes.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. You have to make sure he's developed enough to the point where playing him doesn't actually hurt his chances of succeeding.

I think he will start eventually...but not right away.

I don't get the viewpoint that because he was picked in the 2nd round you must play him and yes I know that he's almost retired now but it's not always best to play your stud first rounded at the start let alone any other round QB.

People are focused on the fact that there is no reason not to from a performance standpoint. I agree. Wins and losses really shouldn’t determine whether he starts. We are losing a lot of games either way.

But they don’t accept that if you throw a guy in before he’s ready he can take a beating and never have a chance to develop because of it.

If he isn’t good? Rattler isn’t good. I truly don’t get the “let’s start Rattler for the first few games then let Shough play”. If it’s this close of a competition you give Shough the shot to show this team he’s the guy. We’re gonna be really bad this year and qb is in play next year. I know what we have in Rattler and that is a mediocre backup qb with one hell of an arm.

What’s the point in mentioning this dude? Do you people intentionally try to derail the threads. He’s not on our team. Stop bringing him up.

Sheadur, is going to be good. Plain and Simple. As up is to down, He will be great for Cleveland. And we will have a 10 million dollar backup, backing up a 5th round pick that makes 300k.

Because he needs to earn it. If Shough was 22 I would agree with this but he’s older than Rattler and the round difference is only in play because Rattler entered during a much stronger draft compared to Shough. I can only go with what the beat writers are saying and they are all saying Rattler looks better. I bashed Rattler plenty last year but told myself I would give him a fair shot under the new coaching staff. Everyone else should do the same.
