The new blood pressure guidelines say that if your systolic blood pressure is in the 130 to 139 range, your medical provider should first encourage you to adopt healthy lifestyle changes.

Lifestyle changes, according to the new guidelines, include maintaining or achieving a healthy weight, eating a heart-healthy diet, reducing the amount of salt in what you eat and drink, managing stress, at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week and resistance exercise like weight training.

Easy solution: don’t do drugs; don’t listen to American doctors/drug dealers.

Quit eating all these processed foods with 1000 fricking chemicals in every bite you take, don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t do drugs.
Problem solved without big Pharma intervention.

High blood pressure is not good, this is not moving goalposts.

I read it. Seems they lowered the recommended systolic pressure at which medication should be used, if lifestyle changes aren’t effective.

HBP is nothing to play with. Ideally I thought 125/ 80 and below ( within reason) is optimal. Too low isn't good but the 117 - 130 and 25 to 32 is where you want to be.

After three to six months, if the lifestyle changes alone don’t lower your blood pressure to the goal range, then medication is recommended, the new guidelines say.
Thanks for the concise, accurate summary in your thread title.

The OT where we love GLP-1's but hate Big Pharma

Interesting podcast about drug side effects. Crazy how many of them attacked hormones even to the extent of lactation men even creating breasts and suicidal thoughts as well as gender dysphoria. No wonder the 2010s saw an increase in the trans mental illness. Almost like it was the plan.

My PCP has been saying this for years, nothing really groundbreaking here, tbh.

They changed the guidelines years ago. There is nothing new here.
CNN is a fricking joke.
My doc is fine with my BP running below 135 - 80.

High BP is a major issue in the US, but readings are taken incorrectly 9/10 times and Dr's are way too quick to prescribe meds.
I regularly track my BP. It's consistently 105-110/65-70. I exercise heavily 5-6 days per week. When I hit 30, I figured it was time to go to the Dr regularly and made an appt with a highly rated local PCP. I was a little nervous, I don't really ever get sick, take no meds so I hadn't been to the Dr. in a few years. I went in and he took my BP once, read 135/90. He immediately prescribed me 5 mg of something and sent me on my way after me telling him I did not have high BP and if I took anything to lower it I'd probably pass out. Went for a follow up a month later and he said my bloodwork was great and he was happy to see my BP at 105/70 did I have any med side effects? Told him I actually never got it filled and he got visibly frustrated...

Young people shouldn’t have high blood pressure. So yeah, if a 20 something presents with a resting elevated blood pressure, then something needs to be done. That person will not live a normal healthy life into their 60s if they continue the trend.
Obviously, lifestyle change is preferred, but too many people have poor self control.
