Our largest client informed us they are not going to renew their contract for next year. This is coming after revenue was down 20% the past quarter. Our team is stretched thin and the few new hires have been contractors from India. I’ve got a nagging feeling some of us will get let go and be replaced by cheaper offshore “talent”. Time to polish the resume for the third time in two years. I’m tired boss :(

I follow a lot of economic related accounts on X. It seems like the white-collar job market is pretty shitty right now.

Between AI and offshoring, the white collar job market is a bloodbath.

You will be replaced with an AI robot that is also a plumber and part time Uber driver.

I’d say “learn to code”, but AI can learn that faster than you.

The world needs ditch diggers too.

Always keep the resume polished and always be interviewing to keep your answers sharp.

1. Autonomous Excavators & Trenchers
Companies like Built Robotics retrofit standard excavators, dozers, and trenchers with AI guidance systems and LiDAR to make them self-operating.
These systems can follow a digital trench plan, sense soil conditions, and adjust digging depth without a human operator in the cab.
2. Semi-Autonomous Machines
CAT, Komatsu, and Deere offer “grade control” and “dig assist” features—AI-supported controls that keep trenches straight and at exact depths, reducing operator fatigue and mistakes.
3. Robotic Mini-Diggers
For smaller jobs (utility lines, landscaping), there are compact electric or hydraulic robots that can dig narrow trenches autonomously. Some resemble mini skid steers with trenching attachments.
4. Pipeline & Utility Applications
In the energy sector, autonomous ditch diggers can work in remote areas to lay cables, pipelines, or drainage systems, especially where labor is expensive or safety risks are high.
The appeal is obvious—24/7 digging, perfectly straight lines, fewer people on site, and safer in hazardous zones—but adoption is still limited by cost, regulations, and site complexity.

We also just lost one of our largest clients. We still have other clients to keep us afloat, but I don't like the direction we're headed so I jumped ship. Start my new job in 2 weeks. I'd always rather jump off the ship before it sinks.
