My sons and I are audiophiles and have been installing various car audio kits, speakers and upgrades, most of which have been purchased thru Crutchfield.

The customer service has been outstanding….when I call for shipping information or technical support, it’s always a knowledgeable American male. We have had to return a couple of failed modules, and the ease of service, support, and communication has been unbelievable…cudos to that company for keeping domestic support personnel.

I wonder if these massive customer facing corporations know that most people would be willing to pay a little extra for that level of support and ease of communication…..it’s ridiculous dealing with international support organizations who are simply reading a script.

I bought a car stereo from them in 1982 for my Bronco. That magazine was great.

Yes!! I stumbled back onto them while looking for audio conversion kits for an Infiniti Q50.

Blast from the past for me!

They are awesome, and an example of how to manage a business. Their niche isn’t that large, but they serve it well. They have all but put the local shops out of business. They were able to significantly undercut the marked-up retail prices of a local shop, and force those folks to move to a labor-fee revenue model. If someone does need to buy from a local shop, it is industry standard now to reference Crutchfield pricing for the equipment, including installation hardware. Just about every shop out there will at least match Crutchfield pricing…there’s no profit in trying to beat them.

Like the OP, I’ve used them for decades now…never once had a bad experience. Today’s vehicles are extremely complicated electronically, so you may need a local professional to pull off an install correctly. Crutchfield staff will go above and beyond to try to help you. Great American company indeed.

I updated my head unit in my vette a few months back. It’s a 2011 so I needed something to interface with the new unit. Crutchfield had it all in a kit.

The unit looks stock, but has CarPlay and its wireless connection. Works really well. And Crutchfield customer support was great when doing the install.

Bought a wire harness from them for a car project many years ago. Glad they are still up.

Yeah, I used to love getting that magazine. It was like a Sears Christmas catalogue for me. I used to earmark all the components I daydreamed about getting. Many of my earliest jobs as a teenager were with the express intent of purchasing home and car audio through them. Made quite a few purchased during the '90s. Had a badass early surround sound setup in my little bedroom and a quality audio setup in my high school clunker.

They’re still in business because of their outstanding customer support. I’ve bought multiple receivers from them over the years and if I ever have a problem they will walk you through it step by step until it’s back working.

You pay more, but you get more in terms of product quality and support. There's always going to be at least a small market for that, even in a mass-consumer culture.

It's true!
I put a new receiver in my truck last year and encountered a weird issue after installing.
Called them and got what sounded like a college coed. I assumed, "this girl isn't going to know crap about my truck that's only 5 years younger than her."

She solved my problem over the phone in under 2 minutes.

2 things remain true:
1- I'm not great at troubleshooting wiring
2- Crutchfield's quality service is worth a minor dollar difference on their gear.

Back in the day, many a teenage boy looked forward to the arrival of the latest Crutchfield catalog as lustily as a new issue of Playboy.
