A hot air balloon festival is this weekend in the great city of Zachary. I went last year and there was a total of 3 balloons, zero of which took flight.
Is Louisiana the only place to host a balloon festival with no actual ballooning?

The one in Decatur, AL was always fun. We went every year growing up. The last time I went was probably a decade ago, but you see them flying in the area if the wind is right.

In the 90s Baton Rouge hosted some really incredible Hot Air Balloon festivals. Not sure what happened but they were a good time.

Louisiana is definitely the place dumb enough to host one in the hottest month of the year.
Natchez Balloon Festival is always great and in the cooler month of October.
Red Dress Run is this weekend too. Why August?

Too hot. They scorched their silks to get the lift.

Sure as shite got an endless supply of hot air at the 900 Block of N 3rd Street in that city.

Couldn't you just let some balloons go and get basically the same experience?
Never understood the fascination with these unless you were riding in one.

I remember in the 80s and 90s in BR there used to be some fun hot air balloon festivals.
I wanna say they were at the fairgrounds but not totally sure.
Wish those would come back

Up until 2011 the championships were held on the Pennington Bio property off Kenilworth and they were a lot of fun.

The one in Gonzales used to have races. They went up a lot more than 10 ft.

There was one out at UNO 15-20 years ago that was pretty cool. Probably had 15-20 balloons. But I think it only lasted a year or two.

The 80s and 90s were the U.S, Championships. It was a huge deal - seemed like it shut the city down for a week. Good Morning America would come down.
I think they moved it back to its rightful home in Albuquerque.

depends on weather these days

I flew out of Albuquerque during the balloon festival. There were many balloons and they were just to the north and west of the climb out of the plane.

BR tried to make a play to become the home site and got it for a few years. I think the decision was they wanted the national championship stuff to move to different venues.
