I have been part of redistricting committees that helped draw voting districts. We drew a very fair and balanced set of districts that looked like blocks. The politicians then used that as a basis and redrew them to benefit themselves. I thought that was bullshite now and I think it is now. I don’t care if it is my party doing it. It means my party will not be accountable to its members, and the same mfers will decide everything.

If we are just going to have Democratic Districts and Republican districts the parties will never be accountable to anyone but special interests and we are fooling ourselves to think we have a democratic republic, we don’t.

If Texas does this and then California and NY counter, wtf has anyone gained but less competitive districts so less accountability.

Look at Illinois……weird spaghetti like districts…leaves 47% of the population (GOP) with 17% of the representation…..

Democrats have been doing this for centuries…..

Democrats absolutely do it, both sides will do this until it’s pointless to vote.

Power protects power and always has. I have seen Democrats and Republicans conspire to fix districts together many times . The take two competitive districts and make one district GOP district and one Democrat district. It benefits themselves, the parties not the people

In many cases, yes. But that was back when politics didn’t dominate the judiciary and most judges were straight shooters. Those days are long gone.

California has 9 republican districts and 43 democrat districts yet 60% vote democrat and 40% vote republican. Interesting.

There is zero reason whatsoever that software shouldn’t be drawing districts, with raw population being the sole basis and a preference for existing administrative/municipal/geographic boundaries.

No demographic information whatsoever beyond simple numbers should be involved.

Uhhhmmmm.... they both already do it. California is just threatening to make it even worse. I think I read that 40% of California voted for Trump and yet Republicans only have 17% of California’s congressional districts. It’s even worse for New York. Maryland is a complete fricking joke.

Gerrymandering gives both parties unimpeachable representatives. I’m not a big AI proponent, but it’s time to take districting away from the parties and let a nonpartisan AI do it.

What would it look like if you put people in congressional districts, not based on where you live, but by your wealth?
Not sure if that would create more democrats or Republicans.

Take a gander at Maxine waters district in California. There’s a strip that divides another district that is part of hers

Absolutely. The people just get less representation.

I hate when you guys do this BS. You know damn well that both sides abuse the piss out of this. This factually isn't just a democrat issue.

All it takes is to see Illinois’ map looking like bowl of spaghetti noodles to see how we got here.
