Per AI…
The average height of a male soldier in the US Army during World War II was 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm), and they weighed 144 pounds (65 kg). These measurements were recorded for over six million inductees.
Interestingly, this average height was about an inch taller and eight pounds heavier than the average soldier in World War I. Many inductees during WWII were underweight due to the Great Depression, but they typically gained weight and an inch on their chest during basic training. The average chest measurement was 33 1/4 inches, and the waist was 31 inches. During training, soldiers could expect to gain 5-20 pounds.
The average height and weight of a U.S. male in 2024 was 5 feet 10 inches (178 cm), and they weighed 200 pounds (91 kg).

There’s also been a depression going on. I imagine a lot were not well fed.
There’s an antique store in my town that’s great. Every time I go in there they have WWII uniforms and I’m always shocked how tiny they are.
They look like they were built for Steve Rodgers pre super soldier serum

Interestingly, I think average American male height has been trending down due to short Hispanics being included.

That's a baw setting themselves up for an AR 600-9 separation.

Most 5'10" 200lbs soldiers would not survive. They just would not have the endurance.

My grandpa was a Screaming Eagle from Crowley, LA. He enlisted at 16 and his papers said he was 5'2" 125 lbs. He must have been a mean Lil fricker.

I imagine the true average height is lower than 5’10 and the average weight probably even higher than 200

I toured one of those Civil War homes in Vicksburg back in the 1980’s because my parents thought it would be cool. The beds they slept in looked like something made for children. I think if you compare an offensive line in the NFL from say the 1970’s or 80’s to today it’s astonishing how much bigger today’s NFL players are. I remember when an offensive line in the pros were big if they all weighed close to 300 pounds. Now these guys are 6’6” on average, weigh 320 to 350 pounds, very little body fat, and can run like the wind to be that large.

Lol. Most of the TD posters that are trying to lose weight talk about how they are 5'10" and would be "skeletons" if they dipped below 190 pounds. This country's conception of healthy weight is f'd up beyond belief.
