Hiring for a data engineer position, every resume submitted is Indian and clearly written by AI. I have nothing against Indians when they are capable people, they will lie, cheat, and steal their way to a paycheck though.
Now I have to pre-interview everyone to see if they actually can back up their resume. On top of that, we're instructed by HR that for the first round of interviews we cannot ask questions that are easily found via Google or AI. Apparently these dudes are now recording the video calls with AI and getting teleprompter style answers from it.
But wait there's more, I can't ask the same questions in interviews because they are enriching AI with the questions so other Indian folks can prepare.
So every resume submitted now has to be vetted not through resumes or experience but wasting my time or someone else's time. Ridiculous how quick this has happened and been taken advantage of.

I vacationed in Hot Springs last November and must have been half the population was vacationing Indian people from Dallas.

You ended that last paragraph with a preposition, AI can help you with that.

You should hire someone American, if they’re applying.

Hire Americans and do in person interviews.

HR departments are ridiculous. Don’t google anybody. Don’t find out anything about them. Only ask these limited questions.

"Tell me a situation where you (solved common problem with your job). Use actual details and numbers during this exercise"

Employers started it by using ridiculous ATS software that rewards people who use the right combination of buzzwords with interviews while other great candidates get trashed without anyone ever looking at the application and cover letter they spent hours on. Don’t get mad that applicants have found a way to mess up your little system.

Look man even before AI, you still needed to look these people up before interviewing them. In technology, I’ve never met a competent HR screener. I make aspiring lead engineers do it.
It’s easy to have a conversation with a professional and get a sense of whether they know what they’re talking about, if you’re competent.
