Meopta Scopes

I will be purchasing a new rifle scope soon and was leaning towards a Vortex as I’m happy with one I purchased for another previously and a buddy mine mentioned that he really liked his Meopta. Any opinions here on one vs the other? I hadn’t heard of a Meopta til he mentioned it. Thanks to all in advance.

I have one and it’s good glass.

In my opinion, meopta is better quality glass than vortex. Most everybody will tell you vortex, but if you put in the time behind both of them, you’ll come to the conclusion that meopta is superior. The low light superiority is what sets them apart to me. However, I would go Leica, swaro, or trijicon above them all.

I have a Meopta on my 35 Whelen that I use as my everyday hunting rifle. Was I believe a $500 scope and has a red dot to help me focus where to aim (reason I bought that model)
It replaced my Vortex that after a couple years will not hold zero any longer which I assume came from the recoil.

Meopta will easily outclass similarly or higher priced Vortex/Leupold offerings. Better glass, better coatings, coatings are optimized for the correct spectrum of light, and they have much larger and more forgiving eyeboxes
Put it this way - all my guns have Swarovski glass except for two...both of those sport Meoptas

Which Vortex/Meopta scopes are you looking at? Price range?
Meopta and Vortex make fine scopes, but have several different product lines. Some are good and some arent worth the money.

Don't have a Meopta but to compare experience with Vortex. Have been happy with cheaper Vortex offerings knowing they are what they are and there's a warranty. I can't say I'm super happy with my Vortex Razor LHT. Weight, function, etc are all there which is why I got it. But there's something about the focus I get through it that just isn't up to par with other similarly priced scopes. For instance, I find the parallax adjustment gives me a very tiny window of clarity compared to my Nightforce. Find myself fiddling with it at the range when trying to focus on tiny targets when shooting for groups during reloading development. Don't have that issue on other guns. Probably not that big a deal when putting crosshairs on vitals, but a pain when trying to shoot tiny groups.

For the money, I think Meopta is one of the best out there. I've been very happy with mine.

I’d like to stay in the $600-700 range.

Vortex has profited over good marketing

Meopta.
Great scope for a great price.

I've looked at them only in the store and you can still see the difference between Vortex. I would put Meopta on level with Zeiss Victory at half the price
but I'm partial to Leupold, best warranty that you'll never need. thats just me

Extremely happy with mine over the last 5 years

I don’t have any experience with new Meoptas. But the old ones were solid. Think of them as a Czech version of a Swarovski.
I would want to look through one, but based on personal experience I would choose Meopta over Vortex 20 out of 10 times.

Nightforce>Meopta>Leupold>Vortex imo

Meopta uses German Schott glass which is made by Zeiss. Excellent light transmission due to the multi coated lenses. European companies make excellent optics because some countries allow hunting at night. Most of the Vortex scopes are made in China & Asia which is why they’re affordable. If the scope breaks , Vortex sends you a new one. I’d buy the Meopta all day long over Vortex

Nothing wrong with Meopta, but I'd be looking at Trijicon in that price range as well.

I really like the Meopta I put on the Bergara. It definitely isn't sleek though, bulky sumbitch. Not a lightweight setup overall though, and wasn't trying to be.
