What’s the longest you’ve not worked as an adult?

Vacations/ time off/ laid off/ etc.

I’ve taken 4 months off in last year (most was a month consecutive, pat leave) and it’s so hard to adjust back to daily work. Need to vote on adult summer breaks.

Depending if my company goes under or not, I may have 6 months off

A little over two months when I was between jobs. I usually go for short 3-7 day vacations multiple times a year over a big month or two long one every other year.

3 months recovering from surgery to remove a lemon sized tumor from the iliac crest of my right hip bone back in 2007. Pretty invasive surgery. They had to cut away all the muscles from the hip bone.

I sold my business in April of 2006 and was "retired" until November 2006. I was supposed to be finishing a novel but I was actually spending most of my days in coffee shops and beer gardens in Germany. I likened to have gone insane LOL. For the previous 12 years I had been working 24-7-365 running a fairly successful small business with anywhere from 20 - 130 employees. The grind of that was equally maddening but bumming around Europe for 6 months was about as bad, The first month or so was fantastic, the last month was not.

1 month

Would’ve been great if I wasn’t in the office most of the days

I took off 6 months to hike the Appalachian Trail and it was one of the best things I've ever done. I think I am going to do it again in 5ish years.

Vacations of under 20 consecutive days.

But a large bit of my work travel is to vacation-y places so the travel time and the expense has been made easy.

Example: If I have a two day work obligation in Prague (Monday/Tuesday), I fly over Friday before and at least take off until the next Monday if not the entire next week.

But I realize spending weeks travelling is more immersive. I'm looking forward to spending a month in Italy, Spain or Ireland without work considerations.

Post Katrina for about 3 months. It was not fun. Since then the longest has been a week. Maybe 10 days including weekends, once a year. I could really use a break.
