They were just a fad, they fell out of fashion. They'll be back around in 15-20 years or so when the younger generation of aliens reach driving age and rediscover the old classics.

One of the of the interesting things is that crop circles didnt kill the crops. They just bent the stalks and the crops grew back, stunted I'm sure.
