Lumpia from the Philippines, Shawarma from Bahrain, street chicken in Bangkog (honestly the best chicken I have ever had,) and Italian brick oven pizza from Sicily.

You don’t really have to go out of the country; in Miami and Tampa you can get good croquetas de jamón, papas rellenas, cuban sándwiches, empeñadas, and mofongo.

Cheese.
The good unpasteurized cheese like you get in France. It is so much better than even the best cheese we get here.
Also French goose liver foie gras.

My hot take is this isn't the case anymore. On average I would agree, but I'm not gonna lie I was even dissapointed in the NYC pizza I had this spring.
Its never been easier to import and have ingredients anywhere you want from anywhere you want in the world, as it has been today.
What made things very special in the past was it was impossible or very difficult to have local ingredients that made things better.
Now, I think its mostly nostalgia. Don't get me wrong, nostalgia is a lot.
