What the current situation on your kitchen trashcan location?

For years I lived in kitchens with the trashcan sitting in a corner or end of island, ect. When I remodeled my kitchen two years ago I made sure to put in a trash drawer because I thought it was the only way to go. Two years in and I don't really love it and miss the readily available trash sitting in the open. Obviously it looks better in a drawer but either you leave the drawer open 90% of the time or I am constantly opening and closing it.
Temped to go back to the ugly trash can in the open and and repurpose the drawer.
Sometimes I wish I lived in Ghana or the like and didn't have to make these difficult choices.

I hate trash drawers. We had a trash compactor growing up (remember those?) that was even worse.
One of my employees made me this, we hang a bag in it and take it out 2-3 times a week

Thats different. I'm guessing that the lid gets leaned back on the wall and stays that way most of the time. Either that or it has to be lifted every time a cherry pit needs to be spit.

I'm currently spitting them everywhere. Only 2-3 weeks of being in season and it must be a good year for them too. Bought 5lbs last week and ate the rest this morning. Hoping to get one more good haul before I have to wait another year.

I have a big stainless can that sits at the end of the counter and holds a 30-gallon bag. It was motion activated, but the motor annoyed me so I took the batteries out. Keep the lid open while we are cooking and closed the rest of the time.
It helps that my house is ugly and we don't invite company.

We have one of these sitting on the end of a cabinet/counter where it's easily accessed. We tried the trash drawer thing and got tired of it.

I hate the drawers. My dad has one at his place that holds two small trashcans. The one in the back might as well not be there since everyone only opens it enough to toss trash in the front one. We have a stainless one at the end of the counter by the pantry. Step on it to open the lid. Holds a tall kitchen bag and I take it out every 2-3 days.

this is a great point; i hadn't even thought about but you are correct; that damn drawer opens and closes 400x a day especially since we love to cook.
i was about to disagree with you, but now i'm not sure i can
eta we have that '2 trash bin' system in the drawer and i'm still not sure the point. the front bin gets 99% of the trash and the one in the back gets the 'overflow' but more often than not, when i take the bag out of the front one, i reach in and grab anything that is in the one in the back and add that to the other one so i dont have to change it too

I have a retrofit drawer kit that I installed in the cabinet under my kitchen sink because I didn't want to store garbage in my pantry or have a trash can just hanging out in the kitchen. The kit included hardware to attach my cabinet door but I didn't want to relocate the knob or have a sagging door in a few months. So, to throw something away, I need to open the cabinet door and slide the can out - no big deal to me. However, when I have guests over, they're so confused about my setup and instead of trying to pull out the can, they shove their refuse in the small crack between the top of the garbage can and frame of the cabinet. I'm often in disbelief as I watch them struggle with such a simple task. Not many people figure out that the can is on slides and just assume I'm a poor that can't afford a proper kitchen disposal apparatus.

not sure if its the sole purpose or not but we have recycling service where I'm at, so the front bin is the trash and the back bin is recycling

I have a trash/recycling pull-out next to my sink...I think having it by the sink is the way to go...only issue with the trash/recycling pull-out is that it can get heavy and cause issues with the drawer rails. If someone pulls out the cabinet and pushes down on the trash to compact it, it can screw up the rails and cause the pull-out to not close all the way.

I have the cheap plastic one at the end of the counter that we have to unlock it (a lot of little hands throwing random shite away), step on the pedal, then throw away our trash.
Wife bought one of those wooden ones at a craft fair to step up our game; but it's made its way to the back of the workshop so I can stain it and install soft close hinges. Have to protect the little hands

Ours stays in our walk in pantry that's in the kitchen.

You’re going to find no matter where you put it, there will be pluses and minuses. Near the sink is a good option. Near where you do your cutting is a good option. One thing I insist on is the ability to be able to open it with my foot, if necessary.
