Kelly said, “and we needed to do some things differently this year — to embrace this opener and treat it like the big game it is.

So, they didn’t embrace the importance of previous openers? Is that why he’s lost them all? Don’t know if he’s the best man for the job

12 games a year in order to play more games. I'd imagine every game is pretty important.

This is probably out of context or us reading into it too much. But Christ cmon now BK.

He's likely saying that in the past they treated it the same as any other game. Basically using the "treat every game as the same" approach. He's saying that they are putting an emphasis on this specific game this year. You're reading too much into it. Just watch the game an cheer for LSU.

It's a risk to overhype any 1 game. If you lose, your team is deflated. Coaches typically like to treat every game equally.

Obviously, they felt the need to put some extra hype into this year's opener given how the last several have gone. I'm all for doing the opposite of whatever we've been doing

No. He's saying something has been off in openers so there is extra emphasis on it this year . Doesn't mean they didn't care about or prepare for FSU or USC.

Like you said, I see it as him just trying something different, because obviously, whatever they've done the past 3 years to have the team prepared mentally for game 1 has not worked. It's a shame because I feel that LSU had the talent to win all 3 of those games, and the last 2 should have been won by double digits.

I think the context is that they never emphasized a single game as more important than others before. They acted as though every week was of the same importance as the week before and the week that follows.

This year, however, thye have emphasized week 1 as being significant and not just another game.

For anyone to think that no one cared about winning the opener in prior years is purposely looking for reasons to hate BK. There is nothing wrong with saying, we have had issues with week one in prior years so we are making a week 1 victory a singular goal and placing extra emphasis on this goal.

That team was the most well conditioned team we’ve probably ever had. They flew to the ball and just beat the shite out of teams for 60 minutes. Always destroyed teams in the second half too. Allowed only 28 pts for the entire season in the 4th quarter and 14 of those were in the opener vs Oregon just put teams to sleep.

Watching that game eith the DC Meyro Oregon Alumni group was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had watching a game on TV. Watching Sonic Sam run down LeMichael James from behind was hilarious. Watching their shell-shocked looks when our DL was banging the ground waiting for the Ducks' "warp speed" offense to snap the ball was just delicious.

Peak, PEAK Mad Hatter!

I was too.

Yes Miles deserves credit there! Preseason Top 5 matchup. LSU was ready to play. Oregon was getting normal preseason love for all their speed. I remember our D running them down from behind and said this is going to get ugly quick.

I mean outside of the 2023 opener, they have been on the cusp of winning the other 2.

A blocked extra point in 2022 after LSU had tried to give the game away all night is the difference.

It's preseason, BK is just trying to motivate the team for the opener. I wouldn't read any more into than that.

If he had said they're going to treat it like every other game you would have said "What like the 5 you lost??"

What would be a good thing he could say to please you...
