Per system-wide email this afternoon
quote:

Team,

In a few minutes, you will read in the news that Our Lady of the Lake Health has been in negotiations to be the naming rights sponsor of the new arena on LSU’s campus. This is a generational project for the Baton Rouge community and economy. Clinical care, economics, and social circumstances all contribute to the health and vibrancy of our region. While no formal agreement has been reached, we have been in discussions as a potential anchor investor for this project.

As LSU’s Championship Healthcare Partner and the healthcare leader in the capital region, we are always looking for ways to invest into our community in meaningful ways that will help stimulate economic growth and ultimately create healthier, more vibrant communities.

We hoped to celebrate with a large planned announcement after the agreement was finalized and the LSU Board gave final approval to the project. However, due to a public records request, the news leaked sooner than we would have preferred. We wanted you to hear it from us first. We’ll have more details as things develop in the coming weeks.

For over 100 years, we've supported the Gulf region beyond exceptional healthcare delivery in ways that make a significant difference in the communities we serve. This initiative is another example of that commitment, and we look forward to working together to make this exciting vision a reality.

They did the same at UL Lafayette.

Cajun Field is now in Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium. For the few who may not know, Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of the Lake are both part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System.

I have a feeling there is a lot more to this story than we know. Sounds like a preemptive announcement to make sure there is an announcement. Hmmm. Could there be a little political stunt involved?

Why is it a bad look? The Baton Rouge Business Report and a few NOLA writers have been melting their balls off over what is finally a good idea for the city of Baton Rouge and LSU

The same said new arena with the developer who was indicted earlier this week for rigging a past arena bid?

Cause people associate that connection with a scandal without knowing the details and will never know the details. Just the association.

OLOL pledged $245 million to the university a few years back. The naming rights could be a part of that gift.

quote:

A new $25-million LSU Interdisciplinary Science Building will also be constructed, which will be named after Our Lady of the Lake. The building will house the LSU College of Science and “will instantly close more than half of the college’s gap in education and lab space needs.”

Forty-million dollars will be invested in providing healthcare to uninsured and underinsured LSU students at the LSU Student Health Center.

Additional funding will go toward strengthening training programs at the LSU School of Medicine New Orleans Baton Rouge Branch, creating a scholarship fund for nursing needs in the state and funding healthcare-focused research directed by the LSU President.

Of the $245 million donation, $85 million will go toward LSU Athletics to advance sports medicine and improve facilities, which Edwards said was a worthwhile investment considering the number of LSU alumni competing in Sunday’s Super Bowl game.

The donation will join LSU’s $1.5-billion Fierce for the Future Campaign, which hopes to utilize LSU research and leadership to positively impact Louisiana and its citizens.
