Any fans of his from back in the day on here?
I know he's not the most decorated champion, but I still think he's the Rankest for a few reasons:
1. A lot of cowboys were legit terrified of him
2. He put the sport on the map more than any bull ever has.
3. He was retired in his prime.
He's one of my favorite athletes ever.
RIP J-31

I had a tape about him back in the day that crapped out because I watched it too much.

I was more partial to a bull named fu man cheaux

Grew up watching him with Don Gay doing the commentary. Don had more great one-liners than anyone

Yeah jr/senior in high school time frame I can remember all of the intrigue of waiting and watching and seeing who was going to be the next one bounced off. Every once in a while I take a trip down memory lane and pull up the following in not any particular order the most impressive things I can remember seeing from my youth.
Bodacious
Bo Jackson
Barry sanders
Micheal Jordan

Bodacious was awesome. He hurt some guys pretty bad throughout the years.
However, I think Bushwacker is tGOAT rodeo bull though. The rivalry with JB Mauney and his unridden streak of over 40 (I think) are the stuff of legend.

Jared Allen’s bull “Air Time” has some amazing highlights.

Hell yeah. He put a whooping on Tuff Hedeman.
Little Yellow Jacket is probably my #2. 3x PBR World Champion Bull

There’s some good YouTube docs on him.

Same, we had rodeo bloopers and bull riding wrecks addition 1-4.
Bushwacker was probably the best to do it. That bastard would get damn near inverted and walk on his front legs.

Terry Don West got banged up real bad by him.
What Bodacious did to World Champion Tuff Hedeman was diabolical
Crumpled him
He fractured near every major bone in his face. Tuff is damn lucky he didn't hit him in the head again on that second bump or he might have died right there in MGM Arena that night.

didn't Hedeman skip a ride on Bodacious when he drew him again?
For one of those crazy people to skip a bull shows the crazy respect he had for the bull

Big yellow fricker was nasty. His bucking style set a lot of guys up. Terry Don kneed up and got over his shoulders and rode him but everyone said Bodacious had an off day. He was one of those bulls that could feel a rider and knew how to set them up.
Sammy Andrews made a lot of money off that bull and his genetics.

The band Primus wrote a song about him.

I am about as ignorant of rodeo shite as ignorant can be and I know the name Bodacious and know it was a bull. Thats some Richard Petty kind of fame right there. I am trying hard to come up with the name of a human associated with Rodeo and I think McMahon, maybe? I can think of one hockey name, Orr, and know about as much about hockey as I do rodeo. Bull must have been some kind of special for folks as ignorant as me to know who he was!

Loved watching bodacious as a kid. I watched the documentary on him and that gif shows why he was so dangerous and why they ultimately retired him from bucking.
He would throw his head up as the rider’s momentum was going down and would crush the cowboys.
There was also a bull called kowabunga that would take a victory lap after every ride. TNN mesquite rodeo with Donnie Gay was a staple of my childhood

Donnie Gay mentioned twice already in this thread.
As to Bodacious, he is probably the most famous bull of all time but others arguably have done it better.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Red Rock and Lane Frost, but that was earlier before Bodacious hit the scene and blew up the sport.
It's almost Like Lane's death drew people's attention to the sport and boom, the best bucking bull to that point, Bodacious, comes on the scene and wrecks Lane's traveling partner Tuff as shown above.
The cool western vibe had died out from the seventies (think Urban Cowboy types), and the saga of bull riding in the late 80's and early 90's rodeo bought it back.
