Be warned. AL.com

Beekeepers in Barbour County collected a feral swarm of Africanized honeybees, a hybrid variety that is more aggressive than bees normally found in Alabama, the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries said.

The ADAI noted some key differences between Africanized and European honeybees.

Africanized bees:

Are more defensive and may respond in greater numbers when disturbed.
May swarm more frequently and nest in a wider variety of locations, including utility boxes, debris piles and underground cavities.
May pursue perceived threats farther than European honeybees, up to a mile in some cases.

They've been in Texas for a while. Not surprising they finally made it further north.

They’ve been in Texas and Louisiana for years. They’re something to be mindful about, but Africanized bees aren’t the doomsday scenario we were once led to believe.

I have been very disappointed at killer bees' lack of terror and the overall lack of quicksand in my adult years.

And not once have I had to prepare for an incoming atomic bomb. All that practice in grade school for nothing.

Well with all the African folks in the Deep South, why is this a big deal?

I'm trying to keep this conversation focused on the hyper aggressive swarms of insects (and maybe quicksand)
