Hermione isn't THAT bad, but the Snape casting is 100% egregious.

Agreed. I'm still perplexed why they chose snape to race swap. One of the worst characters to do that to besides harry

If they wanted to have a black teacher, use one of the ones from the book who never appeared in the films. I think there were classes for Astronomy, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, History of Magic, Muggle Studies without defined teachers in the films.
If you wanted a "known" teacher, the librarian was almost never shown, the flying teacher (Madam Hooch) was barely shown, and Firenze the centaur was never shown as the secondary Divination teacher. The "substitute" Care of Magical Creatures teacher (Grubblyplank) is in at least two years.
Snape is just a weird choice. Might as well have done McGonagall.

So many scenes about Snape's time as a student will be under a VERY different lens if he's portrayed by a minority.
