… but Essen is truly the biggest cluster frick in Baton Rouge. The clueless old people, lame & democrats all converging at OLOTL congest it all day and you can easily be stuck on that half mile stretch of road for 30min.

College Dr has gotten a lot better and it’s not even that long of a stretch.

Essen Ln is the OG in terms of terrible Baton Rouge traffic. In my opinion, that's where it all started decades ago.

I'll see your Essen and raise you Siegen Lane at peak traffic hours.

This entire metro area is an utter shite show traffic-wise. Hell, I'd throw in Airline from Gonzales to the Stockyard cafe with most (if not all) of the traffic lights unsynchronized for reference. Add to that a complete lack of urgency by motorists in the NBR area and you have quite the cluster.

College sucks now since they removed a lane to make it a dedicated lane from 10 to corporate. Everything backs up even more.

Essen heading north to merge onto 1-12 is the devil. Especially between 3-6:30pm

I got caught in that trap a couple of times but lessons being learned, I know better than to be in the right lane if I don't want to hit Corporate.

Is there a sign I missed, or is it that I'm just too concentrated on not hitting another vehicle?

Airline, Sherwood and Bluebonnet on pretty much any weekday afternoon (and many weekend ones) can be put on that list as well.

Essen was a mess long before OLOL became charity. I remember in the late 90s it was jammed up traffic due to lights being synchronized. Synchronized to ensure there were never two green lights in a row. When your light turned green, congratulations you can move up 15 ft bc the next light has just turned red.

Why was Bluebonnet not named a German word like Essen and Siegen?

There was a short period about a decade ago after Essen got expanded but before OLOL became primary trauma that Essen was good. Everything before the expansion was dogshit and after OLOL blowing up has been very hit or miss depending on time of day.

I'll admit I remember Essen as a very narrow, two-lane (at best), tree-shaded, gravel road. It is now one of the biggest traffic PITAs in the Baton Rouge area. Range Avenue in Denham Springs isn't too far behind.

False. As someone that travels college drive A LOT, I can tell you that it has gotten worse. The exit portion is fine but the surface street itself is terrible. I stay off essen as much as possible, but to say College has gotten better is objectively false.

Correct. Too many lights, and the clusterfrick that is the dedicated lane situation at the interstate overpasses.

Essen can have wall to wall traffic at midnight on a Tuesday. It’s nuts.

Calling Essen the “medical district” rather than fixing traffic always makes me laugh my arse off.

You think Essen is annoying? You merely drove it occasionally. I lived off it, learned to drive on it. I didn’t drive elsewhere until I was already a man and by then it was already nothing to me.

Long thought OLOL should have it’s own exit lane blocked from merging with Essen
