I wouldn’t mind expansion if both conference tournament and regular season champions got automatic bids.
I don’t see any competitive reason to add at-large teams. Almost half of the P4 made it last year already.

Only four 1 seeds made the final 4 last year so we really need to expand.

I don't see why they need to expand, but if they just went to 72 it wouldn't be terrible.
That would just add two more games to the tournament, assuming they are play-in games. So the First Four in Dayton would be 3 games on Tuesday and 3 games on Wednesday.
