Brooklyn and Manhattan on a budget

I’m looking for your favorite cheap meals in NYC, particularly Brooklyn and Manhattan. Looking for late night spots, food carts, delis, lunch spots, etc. Just looking for the best bang for my buck. No fine dining on this trip.

I'll second the Chelsea Market. Lots of great items to choose from at some of the least expensive prices in Manhattan. There also used to be a food court in the Row hotel in the Time Square area, but I think the hotel has become like homeless housing, so that market may be history. Food was good there if it is still open. John's Pizza in Time Square is a good choice as well.

It’s been a bit since I’ve been to NYC (going back in the Fall), but we usually hit up Roberta’s and Smorgasburg Williamsburg as cheap eats.
Also, not exactly cheap but not fine dining, Au Cheval in FiDi has one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten, and it’s easier to get into than the original location in Chicago.

As you likely know, cheap in manhattan isn’t really cheap elsewhere. It’s not easy to get a drink and food under $20. But tons of good suggestions here.
Are you by yourself? Chelsea market is probably the best place but I wouldn’t say anything there is ‘cheap’. Sarge’s and Katz deli are by no means cheap either.
There’s a local well known guy on YouTube I’ll think of shortly that does some good cheap deals, like $3 hotdog and drink type of deals.

If you're on 5th Avenue between 56th and 57th Street, and you want to see Trump Tower, Trump Grill has a good burger and sandwich menu and Sunday brunch that are very reasonable.. It's a very nice, cool, clean, spot to escape the Midtown Summer heat
When I lived in Manhattan I regularly went to the (now closed) hot bar and deli on the 4th floor for the best and cheapest hot dog in the city.
I still go to Trump Grill when I'm in the City..

Idk if it’s considered manhattan but we found the cheapest food was in Chinatown in a few hole in the wall spots and it was the best food of our trip also. Specifically hk wonton garden. They had the best chicken noodle dish I’ve ever had. It didn’t sound or look as amazing as it was! And we stopped in a viet place that made bread and dumplings for cheap cheap even at breakfast time but I can’t recall the name of that place

Why wouldn’t Chinatown be considered Manhattan?

If you're near Hell's Kitchen stop in at Rudy's for a drink and a dog. Neighborhood bar with a fun vibe and decent prices. You can get a pint of their house blonde ale, a shot of well whiskey and two hot dogs for $5. That's a good deal anywhere, but by Manhattan standards that's practically free.

I don’t know. I thought maybe it’s its own separate section. I’m silly.
