A couple of questions about Arkansas decisions.

I posted these on the SEC Rant too for their perceptive too, but I also wonder what tRant thinks.
1. Do you think Aloy was instructed by the coaches to take the easier out at 3rd rather than attempt a more difficult 6-4-3 double play to win the game?
2. Why not walk Jones and get to Josh Pearson? I posed this question to my son during the game. I said , "they are going to pitch to Jones. I can't believe it. I guess DVH thinks he as a better shot at striking out Jones than he does Pearson."

My uninformed guesses
1) no I don't think taking the out at 3rd was a coaching decision
2) assume they wanted to pitch around Jones and see if they could get him to chase and the pitcher didn't execute and Jones made him pay.

Watch Ark post game press conference. DVH addresses both.

The only situations where you don’t walk Jones is if the next batter is named Ohtani or Judge. If nothing else, it takes pressure off your infielders.

I think Aloy became momentarily disoriented about the situation. If you look, it seems that as soon as he turns towards third to make the throw he realizes what he's done, but at that point he is pot stuck. People would be surprised how often players forget number of outs, which bases are occupied. Batters forget the count. Pitchers forget the count. Umpires forget the count. It happens.

In his presser DVH said the SS must have felt he was pulled too far to his right to make the play at 2nd. Wasn’t a coaching issue.

I doubt it.

I didn't understand this either. Plus if you put Jones on you also have a force out at second on any ball hit to the middle infield.

1. No
2. Looked like they were just throwing Jones pitches off the plate. He reached out and got it Kelly Leak style

Don't care to watch an Arkansas presser. How just drop some cliffs of what he said.

DVH answered both of these in his post game presser
1. No, not at all. said he hadnt had a chance to talk to Aloy about it yet but you could tell tht didnt come from him
2. he said he liked the right on right matchup but hindsight is 20/20

quote:No. Probably typical auto-pilot in the moment.

In hindsight, with one out... you go for the double play and potentially concede the runner going to 3rd as he is not even the tying run.
Normally, you do want to grab the lead runner on that play.
quote:Jones struck out 5 times on saturday, and twice earlier in the game. The 2nd baseman was about 3 inches away from ending it.
2. Why not walk Jones and get to Josh Pearson?
In hindsight, you don't let Jones hit because he's going to win it. But Arky doesn't have a crystal ball.
Arkansas had to make 5 mistakes in the bottom of the 9th to lose it.
1. 1st baseman going for the Curiel ball instead of letting 2nd take it.
2. Walk to Frey.
3. Error on LF.
4. Pitch to Jones.
5. 2nd base not snagging the Jones hit.
Sometimes the baseball gods giveth and taketh away.
1. LSU double delayed steal out.
2. Jones error on 1st that allowed 2 runs in top 8.

Well WTF did he say sir?
He heard all Jay's propaganda that Pearson is the most clutch hitter ever and believed it so he pitched to Jones instead

I didn’t understand bringing in Jimenez when he was shite against us twice this year and threw 48 pitches the day before.

Let’s not forget the 6th mistake.
Not throwing out Milam on an easy double play if being aggressive which they should have been at that point.
*Personally I think the 3rd baseman “overestimated” Milam’s speed and was kinda lackadaisical looking down tagging 3rd and looked up and realized he should have made the throw to first.

1) No. DVH even said so in his press conference. He said he thought the momentum of going to his right must have made him think his only play was at 3rd. He seemed dumbfounded and did the best he could not to roll over the kid
2)I don't understand this one. Arkansas had owned Jones until the second half of the game. You would think they would have pitched to Pearson, but they had walked Pearson earlier in the game for some reason.
