Announcing they're "pivoting" to a new business model that usually precedes just closing altogether.

Have you ever seen this strategy work for a restaurant? Usually seems like it just delays the inevitable.

Kinda surprised at this b/c I am usually good for lunch here once a month when I'm in the area. Good parking and menu is above average.

I actually prefer the Bocage location over the George O'Neal location. I think their food is solid, and always consistent.

Not surprising, ever since Sclafani tried to turn it into Ruffino’s it went down hill. Higher prices combined with horrible service are not a good mix. I live nearby and tried and tried to give them chance after chance but eventually I gave up on them. I’m not one to complain about high prices, but I expect to get what I pay for. I got tired of paying Ruffino’s prices to get McDonalds service.

Another loss for Baton Rouge and win for chain restaurants.

I went for dinner last week and the service was terrible, as well as the food being way too salty. On top of that, the air conditioning was either not working or they had the thermostat set up in the 80's.

I live within walking distance and I haven't been there since Peter got involved. Nothing on that menu excites me. Also my wife went when it reopened and had a mediocre experience.

I loved Portobello's up until a few years ago. We would celebrate many family occasions there throughout the year. The last meal we had there service wasnt bad but the meal was not good and as others said really pricey. Our go to now in the area is La Contea. It may not be the best Italian in the city but its consistent and reasonably priced.

We went about 6 weeks ago and the service was terrible then as well. Well it was more non-existent than terrible. They sat us at a dirty table, gave us dirty menus, then we just sat. 19 minutes before we got up and left and they had not even taken our drink order. The manager saw us get up and asked if there was an issue and we said we had been their for almost 20 min an no one even came to take our drink order and the table was dirty. She said she could get it really quickly for us, but by that point we were almost to the door and told her no.

It's a shame, because I really used to like Portabellos.

I love that corridor of Baton Rouge dining. Portobellos, La Madeline and Beausolei are all great restaurants.

That space seems kind of pricey to have it for a few events a month versus open all the time.

No big loss for the neighborhood IMO

When did this happen? I used to live near the area but moved a couple years ago. Recently had the chicken parm to-go through work and noticed a big downturn in usual quality (watery vodka sauce, pasta not cooked enough) that I chalked up to it being a to-go experience. Sounds like it's been on a downturn for a bit though. Between that and the prices this isn't a big surprise.

AFAIK it’s been about 5 years. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.

As someone else mentioned La Contea down the street is now my go to Italian. Even have live music.

Haven't been in a minute. Always solid though. Pizza is very underrated

Used to work at portobellos on Lee in college. Red stick burger was good and I still recreate the pesto chicken sandwich today. Met some interesting characters working there and the caterie.
