Chase Announces Major Changes to the Sapphire Reserve Card, Annual Fee Increases to $795

Chase announced major changes to its popular Sapphire Reserve Card today which will go into effect later this year. While the changes are a bit of a mixed bag, the sharp increase in the annual ($795) and authorized user ($195) fees are going to sting the most.
The additional perks will likely offset the fee increase assuming you can utilize the major ones.

The rumors got this one pretty much spot on.

No issues here with these changes.
The Apple TV perk is work $120 itself. The StubHub event tickets is another good one I think as well; that should be easy enough to obtain and cash-in. The only time we use Door Dash is when we're traveling and either don't have a far or don't want to drive (ski trips, etc.) so that's something I think we can take advantage of.
The dining credit is a big confusing though....I am guessing you need to make a reservation through Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables (Open Table) and use your Chase for the reservation then use it as payment for the meal as well?

The annual fee stings - so will some of the point values and reward redemptions (I don't completely understand those yet)
However, keeping the $300 travel credit plus the other bonuses it should be enough for me to keep it.
I can use the Apple TV/music, Stubhub (probably), Chase Edit (most likely), and maybe the dining depending on things. That should cancel out the increase.
I'm just worried about losing that 1.5x valuation of points redemption in the portal and also the 3x travel for various travel categories. Looks like you get more points for booking through Chase portal which is fine but I like to book direct with hotels, so we'll see.

From Chase T&Cs
quote:
A statement credit will be automatically applied to your account for dining purchases at select restaurants up to a maximum accumulation of $150 in statement credits from January 1 through June 30 and up to $150 from July 1 through December 31, for a total maximum accumulation of $300 in statement credits each calendar year. Calendar year means January 1 through December 31 of that same year. To qualify, dining purchases must be identifiable by Chase as having been made directly with the select restaurants. Certain types of purchases may not be identifiable and will therefore not qualify; for example, delivery and takeout, merchandise and gift cards, and purchases made through digital wallets, third-party payment accounts, or processed by the restaurant with a mobile or wireless card reader. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for statement credit(s) to appear on your monthly credit card billing statement. The $300 Annual Dining Credit must be available at the time qualifying purchases are made to be applied to your account. We may reverse statement credits if an eligible purchase is returned, canceled, or modified or if you close your account within 90 days of receiving a statement credit. For more information, including the list of select restaurants, go to OpenTable.com/Sapphire-Reserve-Dining or call the number on the back of your card. The list of select restaurants is subject to change.

The Apple TV perk is worth $120 itself.
Only if you are paying for it now. Most are not Apple TV subscribers or have the Apple One plan (which isn't discounted by Chase). This is one of the many disappointments for me.
I'm curious to see how the Lyft credit works. With the Amex Platinum, you get monthly Uber credits. However, the Uber algorithm significantly increases the prices of rides on accounts with credits, so the credit is essentially worthless. Hopefully, Lyft doesn't do that.

Willing to bet AmEx matches almost one for one with the perks but just gives larger amounts and a fee pushing 1k

I am not paying for it now but had planned to (new season of Shrinking, Stick, Ted Lasso) so it can can be a valuable perk for anyone currently paying for it or those who aren't but would use it.

It's normally deducted from the first ride you take once active and linked to your Lyft account like the "Pink" membership. I'd assume it works the same way.

I'm assuming the Amex Platinum Fee will jump to $995

Sometimes we can get some value using the credits for uber eats. Usually only makes sense for a pick up and the restaurant has a great offer like but one get one free.

I have a subscription to Apple One
Any idea if the $120 credit will apply to that subscription?

Call me whatever, its just not worth it to me. I'd rather fewer perks and lower cost, to have the flexibility to choose what I want.

You do NOT need to make a reservation or pay through Chase or Open Table in order to earn the $150 rebate every 6 months (from January through June and again from July through December). Simply use your card at one of the restaurants listed on this platform. You can find eligible restaurants here: opentable.com/c/chasedining.

If you have an active paid Apple One subscription purchased directly through Apple, your complimentary Apple TV+ subscription through Chase and your Apple One subscription through Apple will run at the same time unless you cancel your preexisting subscription. You may cancel your Chase complimentary Apple TV+ subscription at any time by calling the number on the back of your card.

I think this is the more important portion of that link (thanks for it, I was wondering too):

A lot of their "perks" like travel and purchased item insurance are bullshite. I have made claims and they always ask for bizarre documentation and then deny your claim when you don't have it. For instance, I had an amazon package stole. from my porch. I made a purchase protection claim which covers stolen items bought with the card. I had a police report, receipts and even video of the thief taking the package. But they denied my claim because I didn't have a repair estimate. I talk the them and explained I don't have a repair estimate for stolen items but no dice. For that reason I am planning on dumping that card and the increased fee will definitely make me cancel it. In addition, their lounges I have used have been terrible but usually the lounges are in a different terminal than I am flying out of. I do have a lot of points on the card and they do offer 1.5 reimbursement so I guess I will wait until we take a europe trip next summer before canceling.

That's really aggravating. I don't feel like updating and cancelling and doing all that garbage

Yeah I’m going to drop down to the Freedom Unlimited to keep my points, not worth the higher fee for me.
