How do we match up against UCLA?

They currently have UCLA at a better RPI than us. I personally think we played a harder schedule. Guess we will find out tonight. Go Tigers!

They have a decent starting rotation.
They have a really solid bullpen.
They play good defense.
Neither of those things are better than Arkansas'.
We should be fine as long as our bats can eek out some juice.

I briefly looked at their season stats earlier. One of the biggest differences between the two teams was slugging %. They have 4 everyday players slugging over .500 while we have 7 (only Stanfield & Braswell below, both Pearson and Brown qualify).
**Edited to add Braswell.

They seem kind of like WVU offensively but play better defense and have a better bullpen with not as good starters.

There is no way Braswell is slugging .500

UCLA has proven they can beat good or better teams in the postseason, but we seem to match up well with them. Their starter today has ok numbers, but isn't on the same planet as Eyanson, or what we faced vs Arkansas. Also bear in mind those numbers are from facing a pretty rough conference, overall. They are good and I’m sure they can give us problems if they are on fire, but the offense has been doing pretty well in the postseason vs pitching that isn’t elite.
If you look at LSU since the regional started, the offense has generated plenty of hits in every game other than the last one, where we did just enough. But that was against elite pitching. The only issue we had in the 6 regional and super games was timely hitting and going cold late in the Sunday game vs Little Rock. We were able to get hits, timely hits and generate runs vs everyone else. I think that bodes well for tonight.

Offense: Pretty comparable to LSU...but with less power. However, they find ways to score runs. In 64 games LSU has scored 515 runs. UCLA has scored 516 in the same amount of games.
Pitching: Good, but a higher ERA overall than LSU. The biggest difference is LSU strikes out a LOT more batters than UCLA.
Fielding. Excellent. Virtually the same fielding % as LSU. Both are top 10 nationally.
One critique for UCLA is that they haven't played a ton of great teams. Coming into the NCAAT they were 11-8 vs. tournament teams. 3 of those wins came vs. Nebraska, who was only a tournament team because they beat UCLA in the Big 10 championship game (in Omaha). Compare that to LSU who was 18-9 in games vs. Tournament teams.
Until Saturday, LSU had a relatively favorable path to the CWS. UCLA did as well. Their regional, overall, was probably better than LSU's. But they got a favorable SR when they were able to avoid @ Texas. Then they were matched up with the worst team in the CWS (Murray St)
That doesn't always matter in a one game situation, but LSU has seen and had more success against tougher competition

You are the first person ever to worry about RPI at the College World Series. Nice Troll Hunt Palmer! It’s too late LSU already got the top 8 seed you can’t take it back now.

One thing I hope Yeskie and Eyanson understand is, UCLA isn't going to chase a lot of junk or free swing for homers. That plays into Eyanson’s hands. They aren't that type of team. He needs to throw strikes and let his defense work behind him.

They have the most dangerous hitter in Cholowski and a good bullpen that they like to use to matchup. Do not like their pitchers out of the bullpen to see hitters twice and their starters rarely see a hitter 3 times.
If our bats can be effective I think we can overwhelm them early. But if its a close game we could be in for a real struggle.

Yeah, throwing his curve for strikes tonight is imperative for Eyanson.

My bad, you're right. He and Stanfield are the only every day players under .500 slugging.
What threw me off was John Pearson (2nd on the team in slugging). I read it as Josh but then counted Josh also.
So we have 7 out of 9 slugging over .500.

LSU is much deeper and more talented. UCLA shortstop might be best player in America but otherwise LSU has the advantage. If Tigers play well they will win

We're gonna wipe the floor with them. I predict big crooked numbers all the way through.

Go Tigers? You an Auburn Fan? Clemson? WTF?

Its just one game in baseball between two good teams, anything can happen really, hopefully the balls bounce our way.
