Does Zohran Mamdani have a real chance to defeat Cuomo in NYC mayoral race?

Mamdani surges in new poll

quote:

The survey, conducted by Public Policy Polling for Democrat Justin Brannan’s city comptroller campaign, found Mamdani beating Cuomo 35 percent to 31 percent — a difference that is narrowly within the 4.1 percent margin of error.

For those not keeping up he's a democratic socialist type and has endorsements from AOC among others

Cuomo of course is a more traditional dem but also a scum bag of the highest order (redundant, I know)

I don't live in NYC and don't have a dog in this fight but it's interesting in terms of the cultural zeitgeist

socialist type

I'd be surprised if an actual Democrat could beat a socialist in NYC.

I just don't see how Cuomo is even a viable candidate after COVID

I don't understand how an American city can literally put a socialist in office. Baffling.

If it's going to happen in any city it's going to happen in a city where there is extreme wealth inequality like NYC IMO

People like free/reduced stuff. NYC is incredibly expensive. I can see the appeal for the non wealthy *citizens. Too bad for them this story has been told before and won't end well.

Looks like Eric Adams is still in, just as an Independent. Hopefully they go with the devil they know... he ain't the worst they've had.

A better question is why are these the choices? Can this city not get a competent person to run for mayor? Mamdani will make David Dinkins look competent.

Plus he resigned because of credible sexual assault (groping, etc.) claims. We were assured by various New York politicos that Donald Trump's dubious (she couldn't even say what year in the 90s) sexual assault lawsuit disqualified him from office.

So one is open about it and the other one hides it. All democrats today are extremists. They vote the same way.

Any of us would be in prison had we done what Cuomo resigned over. Sexual assault is a felony in all 50 states. fricking liberals, especially NYC ones, have no morals or integrity.

Competency, at this point, will be seen by the masses as cruelty. It's been whack for so long that going straight and narrow is something they don't have the appetite for YET.

Yeah, its shameful. NYC (and most large cities) can't seem to stop themselves from digging a deeper and deeper hole.

Bloomberg was the last Independent mayor NYC had.

Are you familiar with New Orleans? Whether they call themselves Socialists or not, there are a number of cities that have done it.
