President Donald Trump announced his intention to restore the names of several military bases that were originally named after Confederate generals. Among the bases mentioned is Fort Cavazos, which Trump proposes to rename back to Fort Hood.
quote:
We are also going to be restoring the names to Fort Pickett, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker, Fort Polk, Fort A.P. Hill, and Fort Robert E. Lee," Trump said.

He’s starting to sound pretty Jeff Landry-ish.
Who gives a shite about this? Focus on more important things, Donald. Are we bringing a live tiger to the White House next?

Bases, mountains, and seas changing names every 4-8 years is going to get old AF.

Can we bring back Aunt Jamima and all of those proud minority logos where the families of the people in the logos were devastated when they were changed originally?

Another big waste of funds and time.

The Left has spent years renaming things, tearing down statues, and rewriting our history — now they’re suddenly outraged at the idea of just restoring the original names.

Or moderate conservatives like me don’t like the idea of wasting tax payer money over dumb shite like this. The wasted money is what I’m not in favor of.

Agreed. No reason to ever change them the first time and waste all that money and time.
Hopefully they kept the old signs in storage to save money fixing the liberals stupid idea.

I will let you in on a little secret - no one in the military was using the new names in casual conversation.
One afternoon at the range a dude used a new name and everyone there threw something at him.

Agree to disagree—I’m also not a fan of how most tax dollars are spent these days. Bloated government agencies, foreign aid, endless wars, welfare abuse, climate initiatives, public art projects, high-speed rail boondoggles, DEI programs, congressional perks, and absurd research grants all come to mind.
But preserving our history and honoring great Americans? That doesn’t strike me as nearly as wasteful or expensive as any of the above.

Yep. That's the only real answer.

Polk was an episcopal bishop who was given a generalship because he was personal friends with Jefferson Davis. As a general, he was mediocre at best, if not incompetent.
quote:
He committed one of the great blunders of the Civil War by dispatching troops to occupy Columbus, Kentucky, in September 1861; the governor of the critical border state of Kentucky had declared its neutrality between the United States and the Confederacy. Still, Polk's action prompted the Kentucky legislature to request U.S. aid to "expel the invaders", ensuring U.S. control of Kentucky for the remainder of the war.[11]
