I don’t follow baseball super close, but it seems to me surprising that only 3/8 of the top seeds will be advancing to Omaha. Here’s the breakdown:

1- Vandy: Eliminated in the regionals, didn’t even make final (lost to Louisville and Wright St)
2- Texas: eliminated by UTSA in the regional
3- Arkansas: Omaha bound (wins against NDSU, Creighton, Tenn, hasn’t lost yet)
4- Auburn: Eliminated in supers, 0-2 to Coastal Carolina at home.
5- UNC: lost 2-1 in super regional to Arizona
6- LSU: Omaha bound. Wins over UALR, DBU, WVU, one dropped game to UALR
7- UGA: Eliminated in the regionals, didn’t even make final (lost to Duke and OkSt)
8. Oregon St: Omaha bound. Wins against TCU, SMC, USC, FSU. Dropped one each to SMC and FSU.

so of the top 8, 3 are left standing. Of the 5 eliminated, only 1 lost in the supers to another seeded team (Auburn to 13 Coastal) Is this normal is baseball?

yeah below average but not unprecedented

baseball is crazy.

I was trying to fill out a bracket but gave up because i was picking almost straight chalk and I knew that wouldn’t win.

Truthfully, the SEC was way overrepresented this year. Coastal Carolina should have been a top 8. Teams like MSU & Kentucky had no business being invited.

Baseball has more parity now with NIL and free agency. Kids will go where there is playing time. Stacking a roster 3 deep is limited to only the elite of the elites in college baseball. The rest is pretty much even.

It’s not just national seeds. How many regional hosts also lost? So many matchups this weekend only had 1 top 16 team.

3 of 8 may be on the low side, but you also rarely see more than 5 of the top 8 in Omaha.

Committee got it way wrong this year but tbh, very few teams look like they're the clear dominant force. When we won it 2 years ago it was obvious LSU and WF were the 2 best teams.

Of all the Omaha teams right now I'd be worried about Coastal Carolina outside obviously Arkansas. CC should've hosted and they probably would've bounced just about anyone they played in these regionals.

They didn’t really. The lower seeds just won. The seeds are based on the regular season, how how they project in the regionals/super regionals.

They didn’t host. Unless you are talking about the super regional. And no competent unbiased person is putting coastal Carolina above auburn before the regionals

Baseball is and has always been a different game. Small schools are able to compete against the top schools much easier than sports like Basketball and Football. That is why Coastal Carolina won the whole thing in '16 and why teams like Rice have always been good and same with Dallas Baptist.

shite do we even need to mention Stony Brook? But yes this year has been a strange year where there really has not been the 1 dominant team. I would say Arkansas is probably on paper the most complete team remaining.

I think what’s crazy is the teams that ended up advancing in their place. Again, 4/8 of the national seeds were put out my teams that weren’t seeded. It wasn’t like losing to CC or Tenn or something, it was freakin UTSA and Murray State and such

If Duke wins tonight, the CWS will be made up of all 1’s and 2s. That seems pretty normal to me.

I mean if you watched a lot of games you would have seen a Vandy team who was 22-8 in their last 30 games coming into the post season and won the SEC tournament lose to Wright State and get bounced.

I got 4.1.
hes counting 2020 which was a cancelled season so he had 0 that year which is where the 3.7 came from.

Your 4.1 average of top 8 seeds making it to Omaha over the last 10 years is correct. If you look at past 10 seasons which would include 2015 then 41 teams divided by 10 seasons is 4.1

I keep seeing this and can someone tell me a "series" they won against a top 25 team? They beat Clemson and Southern Miss in single game series, lost to Alabama and North Carolina. Who do you take out of the top 8 or even 10. Im not saying their not solid but this narrative they deserve a top 8 because of winning series against teams like Troy, Ulm and Arkansas st. all year is laughable. They may win the whole damn thing but I think they landed about where they deserved.

Would’ve deserved #8 seed if they got it over Oregon State that didn’t even play in a conference. They’re no fluke. They’re the #1 ELO team which is an unbiased metric head and shoulders above RPI because it focuses on your results against opponents strength rather than weighting so heavily your opponents and your opponent’s opponents

Winning 23 straight games including 9-0 against postseason competition goes a long way in bringing up that #. The sun belt isn’t a slouch. They also have 7 pitchers with 3.33 ERAs or better with > 3:1 K/BB ratios. They’re my pick to make it to the finals against either LSU/Arkansas.

ETA Warren Nolan site has them as the favorite to come out of that bracket
