I feel like every time I go to Academy on Siegen, I see a brazen shoplifting incident. Was just there minutes ago and a guy (you know the description) just walks out with something under a large beach towel. Alarms go off but the employees barely bat an eye.

I walk to my car and the guy keeps turning around to see who’s following him. I end up behind him at the light and he sees me snapping a pic of his plate. Then I pull around and wave to him as I drive by.

Is there something about Academy that attracts this? A certain product or a “don’t give a shite” attitude from the employees?

Being located in the fricking ghetto (Cortana and Airline) or ghetto adjacent (Siegen by shitty apartments) tends to cause this.

Les Miles has clearly lost control of the Academy on Siegen.

Most employers will not allow employees to chase after or try and stop a shoplifter. Not worth getting someone hurt or shot over a pair of sneakers. Thieves know this.

Shoplifting is apparently rampant at the Northside Academy in Lafayette. The manager said slides (sandals) are the most stolen item.

My understanding is these corporate businesses that the minute they shoplifter walks outside the employee can basically do nothing for "liability reasons" but I recall some jackass stole a gun out of the Academy in Alexandria a few years ago and the employees chased him down a football field away as he tried to hop a fence into the woods. So it might depend on each store or like you said employees giving a shite.

I worked at the Juban Crossing Academy in Denham during college and we were told not to follow shop lifters under any circumstances. We had a door greeter get fired for getting into a “scuffle” with one lol. Barely anyone there other than management makes over $10/hr, no point in stopping people from stealing anyways.

Seems like they would hire security to post up by the door.
That would make too much sense though.

The flip side of this argument is you're getting paid ten bucks an hour, why would you chase down someone?

I worked at Academy in Collierville, Tennessee. We did annual store inventory to see whether our inventories matched our record and of course there was a ton of shrink.

Obviously you weren’t allowed to confront shoplifters, even the “loss control” people. They were responsible for documenting when they suspected shoplifting occurred and we would build a record with our surveillance for cops to try and catch them. A few of the serial shoplifters eventually get caught. Do it as a one time thing and the odds of being caught were nearly zero.

The last half dozen times I went there a cop was sitting in his car at the front curb. I'm sure they will get one out there again after about 10k in loss.
