My son’s hitting middle school next year. He’s been a bit overly sheltered when it comes to content.

What movies do you think are must watch for him this summer?

He’s seen The Sandlot, Star Wars, the Marvel films, Men in Black, and Interstellar. Other than those, it’s been Disney films and other animated flicks.

Another vote for Stand by Me. Loved that damn movie and it has one of the best last lines ever.

Man, that's a great movie. Everything mentioned is good stuff, but I'd go with that one first.

Edit: I'd also throw in my fav Eastwood film, A Perfect World.

Mud and Stand by Me are two solid picks. I know it's not kid-targeted but I'd add Field of Dreams.

Stand by me all day every day.

ETA: glad this was already mentioned. There’s other great coming of age movies, and better movies. But to me, this is the exact perfect movie for him at this age. Pretty sure in the movie the boys are headed to middle school and are around 11. Just young enough to still have imagination but old enough to start really seeing some fricked up stuff about the world.

It’s THE coming of age movie for any young boy about to really head down the path of becoming a man. I bet he watches it and wants to hit the train tracks with his friends that night.

He’s been overly sheltered? If that’s the case, forget movies and get him out and about. Sounds like he’s needing some human interaction vs movies.
