Wow, just looking at NBA rosters the starting five makes $163,339,862.00 per year. And I’m sure there’s more just as crazy.

That’s assinine to pay 5 guys to run, jump & bounce a ball that kinda money. Professional salaries absolutely ridiculous across the board. If these athletes were polled, I’m sure biggest percentage of them would say they are over worked and underpaid.

If the revenue can cover it, then what makes you say this?

That’s just human nature. And I think you might be wrong.

The CBA is very generous for the players. Player salaries account for 50% of league revenues per the agreement.

The NBA 23/24 revenue was $11.34 billion. I aint mad at em one bit.

I feel like I'm pretty immune to pro sports salaries, but when I heard yesterday that Trevor Lawrence averages $55m per year, I just kind of

If someone is willing and able to pay them, they are not overpaid.

Just because someone pays them doesn’t mean they aren’t overpaid.

They're the most important employees, by a lot, in a business that just sold for 6.1 billion. And also 5 of the 150 most important employees in a business that just sold it's media rights for 76 billion.

True. See WNBA.

But if they are generating more than they're getting paid, then they aren't overpaid. See NBA.

The Boston Celtics are valued at $6 billion dollars. I would say those 5 individuals are rather important to a multi-billion professional sports team, no?

In general, I agree. It represents a very flawed value system that our society has. The people that can save your life and should be your protectors are routinely trashed on this board. Society doesn’t want to overhaul antiquated policing and teaching systems. Society doesn’t want to structure those jobs where the ones doing it get mega bucks. We love our influencers, musicians, rappers, athletes, etc.

This board loves capitalism…unless it’s Blackrock or the Chinese buying land and subdivisions by the bushel.

I know the short answer is "the CBA" but is there any reason these guys make this level of salary when the teams/brands are what really matter?

Just seems like there are a lot of people out there that would love to play pro basketball and would "settle" for a measly $1 million a year. Is the illusion of being "the very best" really worth all those extra dollars??

Edit: I understand that lower quality players -> less interest in theory. I'm asking is the difference between an A+ guy vs. the next 500-1000 guys that are just A- players really worth hundreds of millions of dollars? Particularly in the NBA, which runs on storylines and could apply to the same media machine just the same to any of the 2nd tier guys

They resigned Jrue and Porzingis to massive contracts with the intent of keeping the championship roster intact for another season.

They are both going to be traded because the second apron makes it near impossible to keep a team that expensive together.
