LSU was the only team to get a top 8 seed without having a top 8 RPI.

Coastal Carolina was the #8 RPI team and got the 13 seed.
Clemson (our Super Regional matchup) was 9 and got the 11 seed. We were 10 and got the 6 seed.

Just interesting when trying to figure out how much they use RPI when deciding who gets a top 8.

It’s like sometimes it’s huge (see Auburn) and sometimes they bother to take other metrics into consideration (see us)

Head of the committee being 20 minutes away didn’t hurt.

Gotta love the LSU bump in baseball.

The criteria for these tournaments usually seems to be a case by case basis rather than “this year RPI was 80% of the criteria for each and every choice” kind of thing.

We bring the most eyes out of anyone. They want LSU in Omaha..more money. Plus how many LSU baseball analyst are on ESPN and SEC networks.. a lot

Exactly, and if someone out there just randomly tunes in to a regional or Super Regional game, they're more likely to watch a game with 12K fans packed into a lively stadium than 350 people spread out in a shoebox in California that resembles a funeral more than it does a baseball game. I don't like how the sport is so regional, but you can't make people show up.

So the rankings reflect who they think is the best team, but the RPI reflects who they think is???

RPI is a useful tool but I think the committee is right to ignore it in our case

what’s separates us from
most teams isn’t Q1 or Q2 record but having way more Q4 than Q3 games.

And at the end of the day the difference is playing really bad teams vs bad teams.

We have a better overall record than UGA, a better conference record. We have a better Q1 record and a better Q2 record.

but they’re 2 and we’re 11

maybe that’s not the best metric afterall.

It’s nice having the LSU moniker.

Obviously RPI still plays a decent role with the committee judging by that and Auburn specifically being seeded as high as they were

The teams you’re talking about like Coastal and Southern Miss have not played a soul outside of Troy and each other. Their SOS was nearly twice that of LSU. It wasn’t like LSU intentionally scheduled Purdue FW

That’s where the consensus #1 ranking in all the polls comes in.

The polls love our 1/2 combo of Anderson and Eyanson.

Bingo. Folks overlook this every year.

I am curious what our RPI without the terrible NW St loss

4th in SEC standings is a virtual lock for top 8 right now. The conference is so much better than the rest from top to bottom.

Thank God for rainouts.

A win over Grambling would’ve actually dropped our RPI. Which is why RPI is such a fricked system. You should never be penalized for a win.

Rpi is the most over played thing in college sports. Theres not a better team at home. We earned a top 8.

SEC got a big bump clearly. See how much weight the SEC tournament gave Vanderbilt. That one win in the tournament for LSU was clearly a leg up over the competition.

After all the times we got sent to the west coast or not even making the tourney with a 28 rpi in 2011, I think we’re due

That didn’t help SELA. Their own AD left them as the first team out
