Isn't it ironic that these two groups who hate each other so much share common ancestry

quote:
After examining the DNA of 93 bodies recovered from archaeological sites around the southern Levant, the land of Canaan in the Bible, researchers have concluded that modern populations of the region are descendants of the ancient Canaanites. Most modern Jewish groups and the Arabic-speaking groups from the region show at least half of their ancestry as Canaanite.
In the study, published in Cell in May, 2020, the researchers explain that they used existing DNA analysis of 20 individuals, from sites in Israel and Lebanon, and then added 73 more, taking DNA from the bones of individuals found at Tel Megiddo, Tel Abel Beth Maacah and Tel Hazor (Northern Israel), Yehud (central Israel) and Baq’ah (central Jordan). By first eliminating individuals closely related to other individuals in the sample, then comparing the remaining 62 DNA samples against a dataset of 1,663 modern individuals, they were able to establish the genetic link to the modern populations. The ethnic groups either still living where Canaan once dominated, or from that area prior to moving elsewhere, are largely descended from the Canaanites.
Canaanite culture was dominant in the Southern Levant during the Bronze Age (3,500-1,200 B.C.E.) As Iron Age I began, the Canaanite city-states faded. The Israelites self-identified as a separate group. As Volkmar Fritz speculates in Israelites and Canaanites, the Israelites may have formed distinct living arrangements, establishing small villages on peripheral land not previously settled and living mostly in four-room houses. Ultimately, the Israelites formed the states of Israel and Judah, while other biblical states, Ammon, Moab, Aram-Damascus, and Phoenician city-states, emerged. Today, the region consists of Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, and southwest Syria.
The study in Cell not only establishes that the ancient Israelites were descended from the Canaanites, but also establishes that the Canaanite people across the separate city-states of the southern Levant, and over a period of 1,500 years, were a genetically cohesive people.

And their religions both descended from Abraham.

I thought this was common knowledge

So they've just been doing the meme all this time?

Canaanite religion is from Abraham? They were polytheistic, no?

Learning how the Jewish people absorbed and "evolved" the gods of Canaan is pretty fascinating. There is some evidence that early Jewish beliefs had Yahweh even below El, but ultimately El turned into the monotheistic version of much of the pantheon of Canaanite gods. 1 Kings 18 actually somewhat shows the societal conflict in this evolution of the religion.
And, clearly, Muslims stole their god concept from Jews. I don't think anyone would dispute that on here.

You're going to get downvoted into oblivion, but the scholarly research supports what you are saying. And you're right, it is fascinating.

I think the Bronze Age is the most fascinating period in human history and I've just started looking into the originations of these gods and how they were absorbed, transferred, and transformed as humanity was developing.
I'm somewhat distracted because I really want to look into something else related in concept but not time (Gnosticism)

What does their DNA say about their politics?

The idea of syncretism in the Canaanite land wasn’t new. God warned against it pretty early on. In fact, that was the problem of the golden calf in the exodus.

If you haven't already discovered it I'd highly recommend "The Bible Unearthed," by Israel Finkelstein and Neil Silberman.

There is and actual book explaining it, called the Old Testament.

This is nothing new. The close genetic relationship between Jews and Arabs has been long known, and was obvious without DNA testing.

Brothers from another mother. Literally.

Jews came from Isaac and the Arabs came from Ishmael, two brothers and sons of Abraham.

I think its interesting that Jews were monotheistic, worshipping one God. Even the first of the Ten commandments basically said that they should have no other gods before His face.
Why? Because they just came out of Egypt, where there were many gods. Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon were known for having triunes, or 3 gods in one.
And here we are today. Most Christians today believe in a Trinity, a teaching not found in the bible.

That’s not a stretch since they were fighting and conquering each other for a long time. Probably lots of cross breeding from conquests.

What do scientists call Abraham? Jew, Canaanite, or Sumerian?

Anyone who has spent time around both Arab countries and Israel knows this as they look similar
