I’m at work, baw.

This is the pain and suffering I must endure to have the Mardi Gras holiday.

How about you enjoy the fact that you have a job that isn't required to be done every single day, like picking up trash is.
There are some jobs that simply can't take days off. There are millions of people working today in the US.

I have seen companies offer holiday trade offs . Old company I worked for traded Good Friday for Mardi Gras.

Get off your lazy arse and go work on making the country better, baw.

The 2 veterans who run the trash service we use sent notice yesterday that they were going to be out today.

ETA: what else to do with the rain/storms all day? Watch millionaires drive in circles while stuffing their faces before taking another fat shot?

I work for a private employer, and I am at work.

Garbage was picked up at my house this morning as well, because garbage collection where I live is a contracted service (not government employees) and they work today, too. But they will NOT be picking up garbage on Labor Day Monday.

Lots of movie theaters, restaurants, gas stations, amusement parks, malls and stores open today.

And always remember, this started after the Civil War, and for many years there were both Union and Confederate Memorial Days. I actually had Confederate Memorial Day off when I worked for the state of Georgia in 1990. That year it was a random Thursday in April, IIRC.

None of those workers were killed in a war.

No, I don't get it either.

But our garbage guys skip for other holidays when they land on a Monday.

I didn't get my garbage out in time.

It's only half full. I'll be OK.

I think they like working holidays. Don't they get time and a half on holidays?

You realize not everyone has today off? And the parish mowers are likely trying to avoid getting backed up especially with the chance of rain for the next several days.

I've got bills to pay. If I don't work I don't eat.
