2023 Skenes/Floyd
2024 Holman/Jump
2025 Anderson/Eyanson
Skenes: 122.2 IP 1.69 ERA .165 BAA 209 K 20 BB
Floyd: 91 IP 4.35 ERA .208 BAA 130 K 37 BB
Holman 91.2 IP 2.75 ERA .174 BAA 127 K 33 BB
Jump: 83 IP 3.47 ERA .218 BAA 101 K 22 BB
Anderson: 83 IP 3.47 ERA .220 BAA 133 K 23 BB
Eyanson: 81.1 IP 2.88 ERA .213 BAA 121 K 30 BB
Obviously Skenes was generational. Floyd and Jump were guys who came on late and were even more valuable than their numbers show. Holman was just a fun guy to watch because of the pitchability. And the strikeout numbers from Anderson and Eyanson are ridiculous.
We've been blessed to watch some great pitchers during Jay's tenure

1. Skenes carries that all by himself.

This is way more fun of an exercise when Skenes isn't an option. That's way too much of an outlier.

Any option including Skenes will obviously be number 1. A more intriguing question would be:
Pick one of Holman/Jump/Anderson/Eyanson to pair with Skenes to create your ideal top 2

Right. I tend to go Eyanson. I like the mix.

Skenes may be the best single season pitcher in college baseball history, and he had near immediate high level major league ability. It’s hard to compare when a unicorn is involved.

Interesting.

Can I choose 2015 Lange/Poche?

who was the #2 when Nola was here?
Posted on 5/22/25 at 9:07 am to Topwater Trout
Nola's freshman year we still had Gausman as #1. That was a pretty nice duo
His junior year we had Poche

yeh i saw Gausman pitched well the other night. I know it was a different era as far as pitching stats go but Peever and Laxton must have had some pretty good #2 also

Just an odd thing I noticed.
I was looking to roughly estimate the average ERA for each pair of pitchers.
Adding the ERA of each pair results in about 6, meaning the average ERA on each pair is just over 3.

Yea I think when looking at the performances over the course of an entire season it's much closer than people realize. Obviously Floyd's postseason paired with Skenes makes 2023 an easy choice. But our 2024 and 2025 guys outperformed Floyd significantly during the regular season
Eta: actually combined ERAs weighted for IPs
Skenes/Floyd: 2.83
Holman/Jump: 3.09
Anderson/Eyanson: 3.18

Eades got knocked around quite a bit

Skenes and Floyd for sure.
Skenes by himself makes a damn strong argument but Floyd striking out 17 in game 1 of the CWS finals was amazing and literally a CWS record
It is impressive how well Jay has done building pitching staffs
