What would you fellas rather?
Pistol easier to handle, but shotgun makes accuracy a little easier…

AR-15
30 rounds
Little recoil for faster follow up shots
Shorter than a hunting shotgun

A Saturday night special loaded with 148 grain wadcutters. The boogie man doesn’t care what you’re shooting in his direction.

No it doesn’t.

Maybe he was referring to that. Then I’m sorry for misunderstanding his post.
If you are worried about over penetration in a house a AR-15 in 5.56 is the answer.

Shotgun. Hopefully 90pct of criminals are smart enough to hit the road when they hear me rack it.

Just moved a daughter in her first apt. She got learned on a 20 gauge pump with the plug out loaded with 3 buck.

I would rather a pistol and here’s my why.
I keep my “nightstand” gun a Glock 17 with a light in a sticky holster beside my bed. If strange truck pulls into my driveway or I hear something out of place I can easily grab it and tuck it and check things out very easily without walking around with a shotgun.
As for the accuracy a shotgun with cylinder choke has about only three inches more open pattern than a 9mm does at 15ft.
Either one shoot lots of shots and learn the muscle memory of operating it.

Well now that depends heavily on who's shooting the 9mm doesn't it?

Benelli M4 with a tactical strobe light on the front.

Touché
I love when I hear someone say “get a shotgun it will fill the room with shot” or “I got a shotgun and I can’t miss them if they are walking down my hall”
MFr unless you live in Pdiddys house that patten is not much bigger than .725. And for over penetration I can probably shoot clean through a DR Horton McMansion with low brass.

Shotguns are great utility weapons but for a pure home defense weapon id prefer an AR. Its so much easier to use, much more ammo, usually smaller, usually lighter, the list goes on and on and on.
Shotguns are great because they can be loaded for everything from non lethal to grizzly bear. For a specialized weapon, a rifle is better.

Nope. And shotguns over penetrate through drywall just like other guns. Except now you have 8+ pellets going through the drywall into your kids room. Plus, if you miss, how fast are you at racking another round. While using a pump isn't hard. in a stressful situation with someone unfamiliar with the gun its not as easy as you think (and if one isn't already in the chamber, people unfamiliar with the pump won't be able to think fast enough to rack a round).
ARs are popular because of the low recoil and they are easy to maneuver - and shorter and either the same weight or lighter than almost all shotguns.
Pistols are popular because they are much smaller and hold a sufficient amount of rounds. A full size pistol is going to have less snap than a compact which will make the full size easier to handle - even for smaller people.
But whatever you get, make sure go to the range and actually practice.
