I can see why some of you say it was TS's best one in the Yellowstone universe .

Thoughts.

Only two settlers survived. Damn. Never really stopped to think of how tough they had it aside from Indian attacks. Bandits, disease, weather, cholera, etc.

Photography and scenery was simply gorgeous. Could watch parts of it with no sound on and enjoy it all.

Dutton was a real badass and Sam Elliot killed it.

It was nice seeing strong female characters who weren't nut jobs like Beth or that idiot on Landman. Thoroughly enjoyed the part where Lightning learned Indian ways.

Can't believe how poorly prepared the settlers were when they arrived in Texas. Only ONE person spoke English. They had no clue about anything. Gee, let's bring a baby grand piano on a wagon.

They were from a part of the planet that had been fully explorered and settled for 1000s of years. They had no concept of the size, environment, or the effort it would take to cross half of this continent.

They also didn’t have the internet to prepare them.

As in, his actions and incompetence got a lot of people killed, yes. He was the worst trail boss ever.

Like many of Taylor Sheridan's projects, had unlimited potential and under-delivered somehow. I'll give it to him though, he picks great show premises. He's got that part down.

His personal brand of “justice” caused two families to be left behind and killed.

Plus, what sense did it make to abandon the wagon party and ride off looking for the murderers of the Indian village?

here's the thing in 1883 they could have taken a train to wyoming for $65 per person and provision when you got off the train in casper.

Half the immigrants would have survived if Thomas was in charge and not just backing Sam Elliot’s “depressed, just trying to get to the ocean so I can kill myself” plays.

I really enjoyed 1883. I do wish they spent some time on Dutton actually starting the ranch and whatnot.
I’m with yall on the fact the issues the wagon train ran into was more fit for 1853 than 1883.
I mean railroads crisscrossed the country by then.
Use some of your money on a train ticket and then by your provisions when you arrive.
Trekking by wagon train across the country in 1883 was pointless by this time.

Im pretty sure wagon trains for settling new areas were still being used in 1883. The transcontinental was completed but the people in the show paid $200 per wagon and the train wouldve cost $265 for a family of 4 not including shipping costs. They had heirloom furniture and such they wanted to bring with them. It was a mistake obviously cuz they mostly got wiped out but they probably didnt realize how dangerous it would be

I couldn't understand why Dutton and others would risk so much to settle elsewhere
