Why should you get a tax break because your state taxes are high.

We need NY and California districts to win the House. And frankly, all taxes paid, including sales tax, gov’t fees, tolls, etc, should be deductible.

If you want strong state government and less federal government, then yes.

Yep, Roy and Massie refuse to even compromise. Locks for no votes. Which means Johnson's only choice to pass a bill is to compromise with Democrats, which results in an even worse bill.

Massie plays right into the hands of the Democrats, again!

The House has been doing so many good things in 2025 with the GOP in control. Right?

That's not on the table, though. What we get is humongous and ineffective state government and ridiculously outsized and comically inept federal government. Taxpayers in Texas, Florida, Wyoming and other no income tax states shouldn't be forced to subsidize California, NY, etc. state governments.

They argue that NY and California contribute way to the coffers than Red State land so they are entitled to a break. Like it or not they aren’t going to flex on SALT. It sucks but Trump will give on on this.

I'd like to see a real/credible analysis of this.

Some states (including New York and California) can increase their taxes knowing that it is less of a burden on their citizens to increase those state taxes as they are offset by federal tax reductions.

Is that what you want?

The less taxes to the feds, the better.

This doesn't make sense.

Fedgov doesn't limit its spending to its income. So it's about who is on the hook for this spending, and to the degree it's individual taxpayers the SALT deductions favor taxpayers in some (more blue) states to the detriment of taxpayers in other (more red) states.

SALT deductibility is a transfer of wealth from FL, TX, and other no/low state income tax states to high state income tax states like CA and NY.

The only people this affects are people in liberal states and cities with a high cost of living.

Most of them itemize their deductions on their tax returns since they pay a ton of state/local tax, property tax, and mortgage interest.

Somewhere like Louisiana, the only people you see who itemize their deductions are the wealthy (since they pay more state tax) and people who donate a lot to charity.
